TITLE IX BULLSH*T??

When you look at the average DI athletic insitution, you can see the flaws and hypocrises hard at work. It has its uses, but nowadays coaches are sticking slow piece of crap girls with scholarships just to fill their roster spots. Most of those girls will never contribute to the program.

My school just signed a girl who has never broken 22:00 for 5000 meters, and has never run track. I know a guy who has run 16:30 in XC who was turned away because there is not enough room on the team, although the coach suggested he could try to walk on and earn money later. Won't happen anytime soon though, as the current team has about 8 guys who can run about 26:30 or better.

Title IX works under the assumption that women and men are equally competitive in their respective sports. Anyone with common sense and experience playing athletics knows that isn't true.

Health guy is completely right. In the overall scheme of things women are still getting screwed. It just so happens that our sport of track and xc is the one that is most often used to increase women\'s participation and number and sometimes it is at the expense of the men\'s programs. Women\'s sports are not the culprit, it is football with its roster size of 110 (and 20-30 of them will never see the field in their 4 years either).

Title IX is an educational civil rights amendment which catagorizes sports as a educational opportunity in which no discrimination should take place based on gender.

It does not have 'standards' nor rely on any 'assumption' that one gender is more competitive than another. It does not state that participation or scholarships be based on any particular criteria such as competitiveness or box office draw. It simply states that extra curricular activity offering and scholarships be based on the overall gender of the institution.

You boys don't read or even try to understand the amendment - you somehow always create your own philosphical or urban legend story of what the Title doesn't do for you.

Try understanding Civil Right Amendments before you go off making a fool of yourself with statements such as above.

it's FOOTBALL that brings in the revenues that pay for sports like gymnastics, swimming, track, etc.

wimpy guys and women's sports can NOT fund themselves. they rely on the revenues from football gate receipts and any money from the NCAA.

On the civil rights talk...affirmative action was meant so that people wouldnt discriminate thus black, white, brown, purple are all equal and you can't not be hired due to the color of your skin however it also put minimum limits on groups of people.

Thus the law itself shows that without such a law certain groups would have been left out to dry and they actually need this law because they are inferior to the other classes...

Title 9 is BS on the same lines is that basically it puts a lower limit on women sports EVEN if there isnt enough need/want for that sport. If the school is split 50/50 that should not mean that althetics should be spit 50/50 because 60% of thos 50% men want to play sports while only 25% of the 50% women want to play sports.

Exactly. Look at high school track and xc teams that are open to everyone and have no tryouts. At my high school, we rarely had more than 15 girls come out for xc while the boys roster was usually over 30. There is less interest in athletics on the womens side. I would imagine that alot of schools simply don't have enough women who are interested in intercollegiate athletics to balance out all of the qualified men.

How interesting. It is the opposite at my school. Our girls team has three times the number of athletes on x-c and at least 25% more in track than the boys. So, from my view, girls have more interest in sports than boys.

We are also more successful and have better attitudes.

Hey idiot Football eats up more revenue then most other sports combined at most schools. Do you realize there are only 40 schools that make money on there football team. The rest are losing money. That is ridiculous to claim football brings in all this money when in reality it does but only for few institutions and big conferences.

Football turns a profit at very few schools such as Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and not many more so to say that football pays the bills for other sports is mostly an erroneous statement.

Most bring in money, but spend way more even with bowl money. The NCAA reaps the benefits from TV, but doesn't share it all that much.

bottom line: It has nothing to do with Civil Rights Laws or Title IX.

The way that title 9 is implemented at many schools does screw over minor mens sports such as xc, track, wrestling ect. The problem is not title 9 or women trying to ruin mens sport. It's the athletic departments who are lazy and only care about football. Did you know that there are 3 ways for a school to satisfy title 9? The only one you hear about is proportionality, but a school can also show that they are making progress in advancing opportunities for women or that the school is currently meeting the demand for womens sports. Schools just try and go for proportionality because it's the easiest, and it has the added bonus of the minor mens teams rallying against womens sports instead of looking more deeply into the issue. And by the way, how many women are there running athletic departments where the runners are getting screwed over? I'm guessing very few. And just for the record I am a male, former d 1 runner and current coach at a d 3 school.

Ok here is the deal. Last semester I decided to take a class called Womens Studies. Thinking that there was going to be a lot of hot girls in the class... I was wrong. It was nothing but a bunch of crazy women. and the teacher was even worse. I was the only guy in the class out of 40 pluss girls... There were a few hotties but they were lezbians.... So anyway, all we talked about was Title XI and all this shit, so one day, I grabbed my balls and told the class what I thought of it... And it was from there where I was shot down... Badly. all 40 of the girls and teacher said I was wrong and all this other stuff.... Long story short. Dont take WMS 101. I got and A, that was the only good thing!
