I'm a freshman in college now and haven't really run since December of my high school senior year (December 2022). I got up to 75 mi/week in both of the summers leading up to junior and senior years. I ran 16:05 the third to last race of my senior year, then got sick and never broke 16, which was my goal since freshman year. My PRs, from freshman to senior year, were 18:27, 17:54, 16:27, and 16:05. I burnt myself out pretty bad by the end of senior xc season, but the fact that I never broke 16 after getting so close has honestly killed me and still keeps me up at night after all this time. How much, if anybody has a similar experience or knows much about the science, have I lost since then? I'm thinking about getting back into running, especially over the summer, and might try and go after that goal again in the coming years. I would appreciate any insight, especially if you stepped away from running for a while then got back into it. Note: I honestly haven't been active barely at all, but I'm still very skinny and about the same weight as I was when I ran.
