All I know is he's about to rip off a bunch of 4:34s in Paris and go Sub2
LETS GO!!

Mantz ran 3:37 last year not long after a marathon. Bekele is a lot older, but he's also got a way faster 1500 PB (and everything else PB), and has run much faster in the marathon recently. I think he probably could if he tried to. Could he have done it the day of his London marathon? Part of my mind feels like 3:59 requires some specific speed training, but also he was running like ~4:40s for a long time. If he could run like a 56.5 open 400 he might be fit enough to run sub-4.
Yes and it’s not even a question.

No. 4:05 at best.
I can run a 15 second hundred but can’t touch 4’ with a 10-foot cacca, or for that matter a 300-meter cacca.
If he does, it will be a PR...
Technically yes, his official mile PR is only 4:01. With a 3:32 1500 and a 3:58 last mile in the 2008 Olympic 5000, he could obviously go much faster. Kinda funny he isn't officially a sub 4 miler just because he had no interest in racing it.
This is interesting, as he approaches 42 he's only like 3 years off from an age group where the WR is like 4:10. My instincts are that anybody popping off 4:40s in a marathon could easily do it, but at his age, he's conditioned to run a specific pace for a very long time. I think he might need some speed preparation first, but with some workouts he should still be able to dip under 4
Lagat was sub 4 until 42 or 43. Could've lasted until 44-45 with the full focus and luck.
Other than that, Bekele can now push all masters records from mile to marathon.
Brah, Bekeke can do anything. He is supernatural.
Bekele could play running back for the Detroit Lions.
Bekele could whoop me in karate.
And a 4:49 2000...
He refused. Didn't want to. What a jerk.
He could do it now, with serious training, and still do it when he's 50. He's Bernard MF Lagat.
