As someone who spends more time than they’d like to admit, I’ve realized that Sam Prakel seems to have raced 10x more than anyone else in the last 3 years. I was prompted by his appearance in the DMR and Mile recently at Oregon Relays, but he seems to have competed in every race imaginable. In indoors I started to notice that he was everywhere, racing twice at Millrose, once at USA’s and the NB Grand Prix, and I just saw him recently at Bryan Clay. In the past three years between 2021-2023, Prakel has raced 37 1500s and 24 mile’s. These include numerous major world championship appearances and some of the most iconic races of all time like the Prefontaine Classic Mile last year and Centro’s Dream Mile during the peak of his notoriety. He always seems to find a way into every race I watch, whether it’s any world championships or the sir Walter mile, with his mechanical and familiar stride. He always goes out and competes and I am tremendously impressed by his consistency and persistence in how he competes year in and year out at the highest level. I wish we saw this from more runners, but for now we are just left to marvel at running icon Sam Prakel, whose race schedule is more ambitious than Adam Wood’s marathon schedule last year. What are your thoughts and am I alone in seeing Sam Prakel literally everywhere?
