How many times restarting this thread? For every poster that thinks high schoolers are doping (or pretends to know one that is) please specify what they are using and give an estimate on how much time improvement. Thanks in advance for the laughs.
I would somewhat disagree with this statement. Greater muscle strength is a huge benefit to both sprinters and distance runners. Testosterone’s anabolic effects are useful for much more than recovery. Studies show a 7-10% increase in hemoglobin (what epo does) by testosterone by recalibration of erythropoiesis. That’s significantly more than “a little”, simply by utilizing testosterone gel for 6 months.
If a distance running is taking testosterone gels for 6 months, to get the full performance benefits, then it would be obvious. He would be jacked.

Testosterone gel is applied topically, by the way. I’d encourage you to stop commenting like you’re an authority on the subject.

SPRINTER. Testosterone supplements are easy to get your hands on. The same can't be same about EPO (which will benefit distance runners)
True...compounds like DHEA & 19-nor DHEA are sold as dietary supplements & cost pennies.
DHEA has been shown in may studies to increase testosterone, estradiol & IGF-1 in both men & women. However, the studies involved older individuals 65+ who have age-related deficiencies with those hormones.
I don't think DHEA supplementation would do any good - and could be outright dangerous - for HS & college kids whose DHEA is a peak levels.
So I wonder in your guys mind who believe distance high school athletes are doping, how do you look at a kid and say oh he’s on something? Sophomores going 8.5x in 3200? Sophomores going 4:0x in 1600. Anyone close to breaking 4 in the mile. Seems like a lot of guessing and assumptions going on. In my state the distance times are getting better and better but it’s because one outside training facility is working privately with over 400 kids across the state. If you were not aware of that you could easily assume something else could be going on.
Yes, he was a talented athlete and at that time did more distance training than anyone else in that team sport conditioning workout (not football), but it was still doping in HS (wasn't even an upperclassman, 10th grade), to the OP's question. It would have likely aided and enhanced his recovery after training, at least. (This was prior to EPO being available in the US.)
Why the f!ck was my post deleted? I stated I googled erythopoesis (sp) stimulating agents and found a couple of websites without prescription in 5 minutes. Kids are taking it and you're delusional if you think it never happens
