people are just getting better. about time high school usa started to get good at distance running. kenyans/ethipoians/ugandas are still way better though
I would say more than zero but a smaller percentage than college/pro. choose your own adventure for what unproven percentages those are for you as a fan.
I have personally seen high-school basketball teammates take dumb sh1t to attempt to enhance their performance with zero regard for the legality or health implications, and absolute disregard for any framework of oversight.
There are probably a very large number of dumb, undertrained high-school runners that take banned substances (and stimulants) and do not reach national level performance for obvious reasons. there are a large majority of well trained high-school runners that do not take any banned substances and reach national level performances.
There is a third and terrible category of unethical families, coaches and dumb highly trained runners that take banned substances and stimulants and perform at a national level. they are seeking to guarantee access to limited collegiate and sponsorship opportunities.
Someone should write a book interviewing flame out collegiates that disclose their banned substance use. People that are not trapped by financial/corporate/legal constraints due to their success and cannot be sued retroactively. it would be useful to educate high-school administrations.
This is what, your 3rd or 4th thread on this in the last couple days? Making more threads doesn’t change the answer. Very very very unlikely high schoolers are doping. You’re just slow and projecting.

There are a few obvious ones.
I disagree, there are more than "a few obvious ones". Way more.
I played team sports growing up, in HS. At the beginning of season in 10th grade for conditioning baseline test, coach had us run a mile on the track. I was typically faster than any teammates, but when it started one guy flew away from entire group of 20-30. I tried to chase, but it was useless, and my buddy yelled up to me, don't worry about him, as if he knew something. I heeded the comment and dropped back. The guy smoked the group.
Found out a few years later, he'd had some issues related to doping. Not good. Had been doping for a while. Admitted it. Testosterone was specifically mentioned when I heard. Don't know about anything else he might have been doing.
A few years later in college, a former high school wrestler was going around a party dropping testosterone drops from a vial into people's mouths.
So, yeah, I bet it starts pretty early with some, if they have the connection to facilitate.
I will be honest yes probably more than college because there is no testing. People will say I am crazy but I saw a 4:05 miler get injected before a race and run a huge pr in a cross country race and he wasn't a strength runner he was a speed runner. Don't know what is so fast acting, but the reward is a huge scholarship and parents will push this because you don't have to pay for college. I don't know if people will ever wake up to this know one wants to believe it and I don't blame them, but for sure more than people even think.

you are confused the effects of testosterone aren't that significant for "distance running" performances. He may be taking the supplements but the reason why he was running fast was because of natural talent and training.

So nandrolone doesn’t work?
No it doesn't. Not the way you think it does. It will help you with your training and recovery.
Based on past surveys, there has always been doping in high school sports to a degree. But it typically accompanies a clear economic incentive. So top football players are an example. Also top baseball prospects, such as Alex Rodriguez, who doped in high school looking to get signed by a pro team. Sprinters as well, such as Marian Jones, who was let off but who doped in high school. (Like the Assinga case it seems). But again top high sprinters have a shot at Olympic glory, so the incentive is there.
In high school distance that incentive structure was not present, but I thin that has changed. With social media and NIL and the prospects of a pro contract, it may now "pay" to dope as a high school distance runner. I think we have seen it already. Hopefully that was a one off.

Ok but the difference between distance runners and other sports is that other sports have effective doping strategies with easy access. Distance runners need EPO for that significant performance boast. Testosterone can help a little but that mostly comes from the recovery aspect of it. The rest of the supplements are pretty useless for endurance running.

EPO is not easy to come by for a high schooler. You need a doctor and resources for that.

I would somewhat disagree with this statement. Greater muscle strength is a huge benefit to both sprinters and distance runners. Testosterone’s anabolic effects are useful for much more than recovery. Studies show a 7-10% increase in hemoglobin (what epo does) by testosterone by recalibration of erythropoiesis. That’s significantly more than “a little”, simply by utilizing testosterone gel for 6 months.
