That Carlton run was a bit of a letdown. Was expecting more from her.

Girma brothers definitely working together. I didn't see mention of Stewie McSweyn in preview.
Of course, even the no ad version of the meet won't stop you from having to watch some random field event in the midst of the 5000.
11:03 roughly with 800 to go after a 63. Girma sitting on Nicholas Kipkorir in 2nd.
60.68 penultimate. 4 men's race. McSewyn out of it in 8th
I wish the sport invested more in better marketing and storytelling to hype up each meet rather than focus so much on the Olympics. Already in this broadcast, there have been multiple mentions of the Olympics and commentary about how this meet is all about getting ready for Paris. The very first shot of the broadcast was the Eiffel Tower, for a meet taking place in China! The 5000 was framed as getting a qualifying time, not an exciting clash of studs. When talking about the hurdles, they referenced a quote from Danielle Williams saying she’s not concerned about how she’s running in April and she’ll be ready for Paris.
Imagine if you’re new to following the sport and this is the first Diamond League meet that you’re watching. What’s the message you’re going to take away? “Guess nothing matters except the Olympics. Maybe I’ll watch something else.” And the cycle continues.
Dominant move from Girma w./ ~300 to go. 12:58 w./ a dew point in the low-70s is impressive.
Temperature is 75 degrees, 90% humidity, dew point 72 degrees, wind 4mph
OMG. Girma DESTROYED everyone between 300 and 200. I don't think I've EVER seen anyone put 10 meters on the field at that point in the race. 12:58.95. I wonder if he mistimed it a bit as Kimeli did come back on him a little in the last 50 but he's lead was probably 15 meters at that point.
Last I checked the discus throw and pole vault are perfectly valid field events that also hand out medals.
Trey Hardee calling 5ks is not good
Sorry but the coverage is seriously disappointing, not only the NBC takeover but the fact that I haven’t been able to load the live results since the DL races began, which is ridiculous.
Sam Parsons evidently not happy with his finish as he bellows the F bomb at the finish. Girma looked great.
Men’s 5000
Lamecha Girma’s 5,000m debut did not go well last year as he wound up dropping out in Zurich. Attempt #2 went much better. The steeple world record holder separated from a four-man lead pack with 300m to go and would not be challenged the rest of the way, running 12:58.76 for the win. Roughly 55 seconds for his last lap.
Not a bad time considering it was 77 degrees with 87% humidity and a 73 dew point. Oppressively humid conditions.
World XC 4th placer Nicholas Kipkorir was 2nd in 12:59.78.
Great win from Girma, sub13 for Kimeli too
Ronald Kwemoi kicked for a solid 13:02
McSweyn missed the 13:05 Olympic standard by .18 which is tough
I like Trey but am wholly in agreement. Stick with what you're good at.
I'm disturbed that the DL is on live for free on youtbe in both Austrlia and France and there are only 3,211 viewers. Depressing
