I’ve been taking a caffeine Maurten gel before all my races, but tomorrow I’m running two events (1600 and 3200). Should I take a Maurten for each race? Or half for each? Or any ideas? I want to pr in both events so I don’t want to do less than normal, but I’m not sure if it’s bad to take two of the caffeine gels in one day. My races are about 5 hours apart
You dont need gels for anything on the track especially with 5 hour difference just hydrate and eat properly after your first race. Gels only needed for over hour long continues efforts
Your benefit here given the race distance is almost entirely the caffeine. Take 45-60 minutes before each race. You aren’t approaching too much with just two gels.
Took a gel for each race, 1 sec pr in the 16 but I’m not used to a lot of caffeine so I think that and race stress gave me almost a panic attack on the line and I was dizzy going onto the track and dnf in the 3200 at 1000m 💀 was going for the win and walked off coming into the 3rd lap

Well, that’s really unfortunate, sorry about that.
In general, each gel has 100mg caffeine. Studies that purport to show caffeine boosts performance say you need 200mg to have study backed results, or so I understand. The safe upper daily limit is 400mg.
All that said, the cardinal rule of racing is don’t do anything new on race day. I wrecked a triathlon once eating something new and it messed with my gut.
