I firmly believe that even the people who cheered his innocent verdict deep down know he is guilty, or at least the majority. They were cheering that they got over on the racist LAPD.
I'm waiting for the first "serious journalist" to publish a piece that attempts to vindicate his murders under the new rubric of "anything the system does to prosecute/persecute a black man is by definition unjust". For those of us that were alive for the fringe that attempted this back in the day we all laughed at them. But it'll be expected amongst the supposed "enlightened left" to resurrect his character and HIS victimhood.
Don't worry, if you think I'm wrong I'll attached links to the articles/obits when they appear.
"For many Black people, even if the evidence pointed to guilt, there was more on trial than the crimes themselves. The revelation that Detective Mark Furhman had used the N-word prolifically, and other injustices by local police, which were highlighted by star attorney Cochran, combined with the dust still settling from the L.A. riots, meant the case was open-and-shut to them: Simpson was not guilty."

I think this writing oversimplifies what this was to the black community. If you are a part of a community that experiences dehumanization and injustice on the regular, it's satisfying to watch the tables turn in such a public way. No condescending lectures on being a bigger person from anyone who's never experienced that dehumanization day in and day out, now.
There was a part of the Ezra Edelman doc where someone says (of the shocked white community) "Now you know how it feels." I think more than his guilt or innocence, that was the crux of it. I think most people knew he was guilty even then. But for black people in this country, there were a lot of white people guilty of murdering them and walked. There were a lot of innocent black people who were thrown in jail.
These days, liberals, including myself would include another marginalized group in that mix; the domestic violence victim. Maybe there are some woke liberals who will post about OJ's acquittal being a good thing-but I certainly won't. DV Victims rarely see justice too. Nicole's own parents even dismissed her concerns about her husband's brutality when OJ offered them a lucrative deal with a rental car business.
OJ's dream team capitalized on the decades of racial injustice perpetuated by the racist LAPD. Mark Fuhrman is no more innocent of being a racist corrupt dehumanizing cop than OJ is of murdering Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown. Mark Fuhrman and other LA Cops destroyed countless lives we'll never hear about.
But DV victims like Nicole suffer no matter what race they are. Nicole lived a life of injustice from the time she was 18. She had nowhere to go, no one to help her. She was a white woman, yes, but her whiteness was no use to her against OJ's celebrity.
Trashy racism aside(and all those stats are completely unverified) there is a heavy correlation between violent crime and socioeconomic status. If you are poor and desperate, you are more likely to commit crime.
I am a liberal. I do not believe this. I believe he murdered Nicole and Ron in cold blood.
What I do believe was that the LAPD has been horribly racist for years and that lead det. Mark Fuhrman was a perfect example of that. The OJ case coming on the heels of some very publlic displays of racist brutality (Rodney King) was a perfect way to see the LAPD e

Most poor people are white. Most murderers and violent criminals are black.
Do you think the government makes up all the statistics?
OJ Simpson's story is a rollercoaster of ups and downs. At one point, he was loved by many for his football skills, his friendly presence on TV, and his roles in movies and commercials. But things changed drastically, and he became one of the most disliked and controversial people in America. It just shows you how much the way people veiw you can change

Public opinion can definitely change in the wrong direction when you're the leading suspect(he did it) in a double murder investigation.
I don't know if there has ever been a man with a bigger fall from grace than him. He went from one of the most popular men in America for his football talents, his excellent sideline reporting, his good-natured personality in movies and TV commercials ... to possibly the most hated man in America since the mid-90s.

Wtf?? People are so fickle because they used to like a guy and now don't because he murdered two people? Hot take there, m-Marty.
