Jon - likes to be factual.....Rojo - not my thing. / I do appreciate the effort to get us fired up for tomorrow's races but even as a self professed running nerd, I'm kind of blah. The 'boring' course isn't a factor for me. The fact it will be 80 degrees plus, does add some interest and intrigue tho.
Having been to Aarhus and Bathurst will miss this one. Looking forward to Tallahassee in 2026. Good review.
Jonathan just to let you know in the early 90' you could get European track results by calling number on the phone for updates.
Funny in the early years of NXN when Nike did many of the things the WA has done to the recent courses (hay bales, man made hills, mud) they were criticized and the course was called not real XC. Now WA has added these type things and all these people are saying how cool these features are
US Highschool XC has a reputation of putting more importance on pancake flat, vanilla courses because time is everything. Now not to say other regions don't also have those types of courses or that they don't care about time, but those other regions still have more varied landscapes than the majority of US courses.
This follows through into the US pro scene where almost everything of importance is track or road based, and even then track is on a way higher pedestal because the US sucks at road racing distances outside of 5K.
EU and African regions have XC involvement with their adult athletes and not just High School and College like the US. The culture over there seems to value XC more equally with Roads and XC.
So the rest of the world thinks of XC as whatever doesn't fit into track and roads, while the US thinks of XC as just an extension of the track, so wacko courses with mud pits and hay bales feel "fake".
Americans love short, manicured courses and speed ratings. Actual competition and racing? Not so much.
Can't afford myselves not to check out this dreadful race, loaded with women elite athletes competing in mud with spectators on spit distance, with hay in the field.
Such disgrace to athletics, to sports in general and especially to the elite top.
Hate XC, should've been forbidden. Ok the men can run like pigs in the field.
A blessing Gidey and Hassan passed this insult.
