What a lineup! Hailu hasn’t lost a race indoors this season and is the form runner. I can remember another time I’ve seen such a strong women’s field so early in the season.
I would assume Davies is pacing, since he’s done a fair amount of pacing including 3 DL races last season. Probably Akbache for ~3 laps followed by Davies to ~7 is the plan. That said, it seems like Davies would probably handle Ramsden over 5k at this point. But Ramsden should never be given a DL pacing job again.
Gotcha, and yes Ramsden with the most disgraceful pacing job I’ve ever seen to completely ruin Kerr’s record bid. Never want to see him pacing anything again.
Indeed. That's probably the four best in the world right now.
I thought Welteji was the biggest threat to Kipyegon. But Hailu is a year older, has a better kick, and is more naturally aggressive.
We'll see if she can transfer the indoor form to outdoors.
Kipyegon plans to double this year and the 1500 is second in the order. That's the only reason it could be more competitive than conventional wisdom. Hailu is 0-10 versus Kipyegon at 1500. But everybody has numbers like that.

These DL agent 'package deals' are rubbish-- I'll give you Stewy but you gotta take my guy Ramsden too. Would love to see more merit-based entries....
W1500 is comically loaded with Kipyegon, Welteji, Tsegay and Freweyni Hailu

Sifan is faster than Welteji still. Only reason she didn't nab silver is her horrible position at the bell in Budapest. Hailu, imo, isn't a threat to anyone. Will be interesting to see what kind of shape Kipyegon is in. She's expressed that she wants to lower her 1500m mark this season and take the 5000 under 14 mins.
edit: also, i think Tsegay vs Welteji for silver is the most interesting match up of the meet. Have they raced before? They seem very evenly matched

Hailu is out of training with Tsegay and in a group with Welteji now I believe. I think she’s looked incredible this indoors, so I think she is a threat. She’s tactically the best of the Ethiopians.
