I've collected years of data on max number of pushups. I've simplified it to say "standard" for a male to be considered adequately fit (in regards to pushups) is 25 consecutive. "High standard" is >40.
Mine are more like “push offs” and I do 80 consecutively per day. Probably worth 40-50 standard “ups.” I’m pushing 90 agewise, so I think a reasonable healthy middle aged runner can pop fifty. You’ll get to an age/condition when you’ll be literally in a position to appreciate upper body strength to get you up from a tight spot!
