Very exciting race, haven't looked at weather but be prepared for hot and muggy conditions. You'll be pushed toward the front, assuming you have a decent seed time. Super fast first mile, pretty much pancake flat. Save some energy for the last 5k or so, it is just one long push to the finish.
no it ain't! Used to be one of the best races in the country. The Atlanta Track Club would always bring their team to run. Lopez, Barrios, Tracy, to name a few ran that race. The field doesn't have elite runners anymore and the race is a small race now. It's nothing but a costume contest with a few local dudes running. It's a complete joke. That race has been dead for over a decade. They used to be so much hype around that race the Atlanta Track Club would come down every year. At least the Peachtree 10k is still hanging in there. RIP CCC! It probably won't even make the local news.
From the original air master tape, WWL-TV (New Orleans)' recap of the 1989 Crescent City Classic 10K road race with Jim Henderson and Mike Hoss. Note: the vi...
500 place in 1987 was 37 minutes that is 50 ish pace. Someone running that pace runs easy runs at 7:20 pace. The CCC is a F**king joke. No one cares about that race anymore.
The race sucks so much it almost went out of business few years ago. It's just a fun day for the family now. Like they say in the advertisement. It's not a competitive race anymore.
You old boomers griping about races being uncompetitive and times being slow have a very small point… but your quibble is with the state of competitive road racing these days.and especially sub-marathon distance. None of this is unique to Crescent City.

Original Race Director and owner of the Race Mac DeVaugn use to live in Atlanta. He would pay for the Atlanta Track Club to come in. The Race fell apart after he sold it. In chapter 7 of the youtube video it lists the top locals. Keith Iovine from Rummel High School and then Arkansas won. Second place was not really a local but stayed in New Orleans for a couple of months on his way to Los Angeles to pitch The Perfect Storm. Sebastian Junger.

I do not follow. You confirm your first thought... with your own tirade.of how bad it is now.
I believe what it comes down to, is that a lot of what were once called "races" have turned into just "running events". For us old, competitive, runners, we find it kind of sad...

According to local media it's advertised now is the race for "All y'all". That says it all. It's not even the same course at the park by the zoo anymore. If you look at the advertisements on social media it's a bunch of people wearing costumes and having fun. Not a single fast runner! Have a fun time at the hobby jogging race. The race director decided he could make more money making it a family day for everyone rather than a serious competitive race. Actually I looked it up and the winner of the costume contest wins the most money.
Canceling two races, cutting prize money and not having a consistent sponsor has hurt it.
There was a stark difference between 2022 and 2023. Back in 2022, the winning time was 28:15 with eight runners under 30 minutes. One year later, with two of those aforementioned issues, the winning time was 31:23 and ten runners under 33 minutes.
2018 and 2019 were pretty quick winning times at 27:28 and 27:53, respectively.

Isn't it a good thing to encourage activity? However you slice it, they're going 6.2 miles from the start to finish, which is commendable in its own right for some people who might not get out otherwise. Plus, they aren't going to attract too many non-competitive folks by just throwing out pictures of people running fast.
