She's a great runner and Duke's obviously a great school. Stanford would be the obvious choice but I don't they've taken any track / XC athlete in the portal, even a top one from a top school (though how many have entered??)
I hope she chooses NAU just so poster “Stan Ford Man” (yes with a space) can be humiliated! Poster nonstop complaints about Baloga/Churchill choosing NAU. Poster just doesn’t get NAU is where it’s at for runners. If Amina chooses Stanford, then I’d have to congratulate the hedge fund poster.
She doesn’t need the transfer portal if she already knows where’s she’s going. She graduates from duke and goes to her new university. Maybe I’m not understanding the TP correctly. In Churchill’s case, she probably didn’t know so needed NAU and other programs to reach out to her to offer a scholarship.

I’d be incredibly amused if that happened.
I'd be amused if she went somewhere else because there are more than two schools a student athlete can go to and succeed.
per the Stride Report, Amina Maatoug of Duke has entered the portal.
I was wondering why she was not listed for Penn Relays. Injured? Or this?
Yeah I missed this news completely. But I'm not surprised since I had 3 skin biopsies and my dermatologist was worried about one area. Fortunately everything came back benign 2 days ago.
I wondered why Maatoug didn't run in the Duke Invitational or at Penn Relays. She only has one outdoor race this year, a 5000. When the Duke coaching situation erupted a month or so ago I thought they might be risking what Maatoug thought about that. Perhaps it was never a consideration. Somebody like that taking a risk from across the oceans wants loyalty and familiarity. Maybe the head coach assumed she was so entrenched and with only one more season to go it wouldn't matter.
Poor assumption. Reckart was the one who accompanied Maatoug to Belgium for European Cross Country last December. Maatoug says she talks to her father all the time on the phone including before every race. Maybe every option was considered and they realized if she bailed on the remainder of this outdoor season she'd still have a full year available somewhere else.
Maatoug's parents accompanied her to Duke before she enrolled, to make sure it was a good place for her. They undoubtedly would have met Reckart and assumed she would be coaching their daughter throughout
Imagine being able to go to Duke and considering NAU, fools.
Unless she thinks that's where she'll be after graduation and wants to get entrenched. The Dutch middle and long distance runners train in Flagstaff during the winter. Tony Van Diepen and his girlfriend Diane van Es (5000) train there every year. Laros was in Flagstaff last year but this year went to Kenya.
Off the top of my head another possibility might be Oregon. Maatoug was very close friends with Dalia Frias
But in terms of not having to disrupt too much North Carolina State makes a lot of sense. I could see a coaching staff like that desperate to hold things together for one more year and doing a bit of Uber distance tampering
Maatoug has a very inactive Instagram. I checked her followers to see if anything unusual popped up. Not really. Other than Duke the 3 programs following her are University of Miami track and field, Ole Miss cross country and University of San Francisco cross country. But those could have been long term followers, not anything recent.
Otherwise she is followed by all the major recent names like Tuohy, Valby, Wiley, Ramsden, Markezich, O'Sullivan, etc. They probably all follow each other.

School name means noting. Fools need a school name to be successful
