I agree that the 38.9 doesn't make sense. I doubt they'll go 39 low this season. We'll see but that time is off. The anchor is the only leg that would justify a time like that.
Atascocita has ran two 4X1's since their 38.92 in March. Both times, they ran 39.9.
Just today at their region meet, they narrowly won by 0.02 seconds in 39.94, 2nd place ran 39.96.
Maybe that 38.92 was actually 39.92. Idk. A high school team running under 39 is just too good to be true
Reading are fundamental.
Atascocita won the FINAL today in 39.68. The 39.94 was in the heats.
Well, that is still 0.76 seconds slower than their early race at Rice, which is a HUGE difference. They have the Texas 6A state meet this weekend, which should be their peak fitness. This is their LAST chance to prove the doubters wrong. If they don't even get close at the state meet, it is a FLUKE.

The problem is that TX has more one-off fluke timings than any other state. It has been that way for decades ... they have a rabid parent fanbase (soccer moms are not as crazed).

Bob Beamon's Mexico City long jump was a FLUKE. He never jumped close to that again.

Fluke definition: an unlikely chance occurrence, especially a surprising piece of luck
I guess you could say that. Jumps are notorious for that though, sometimes jumpers uncork big ones.
Just asking for them to run even CLOSE to what they ran in March at the state meet to prove it wasn't a fluke of some kind.
And by the way, it's not just them Duncanville which ran a 39.65 there *only* managed a 40.53 at their regional meet.
I guess the track must have just been magic that day.
If they run 39 low at states, I'll take it all back.
