I know there is another thread about people asking if Bekele was done but after the NYC half yesterday he told me "Maybe my chances are 50/50 [to make the Ethiopian Olympic team], so, I have to try my best…Place is very important [in London]. Not only time. But the position is really important in London.”
When I asked if he had enough time to be ready for London he said, “I think so, yes. I have a couple of weeks to prepare.”
I'd write off just about anyone else who just ran a 1:03:59 half marathon about being a factor in London but the dude ran 2:04 in Valencia in December and had some sort of stomach issue in NY.
He's known for not really being super fit and then blasting a good time, and arguably is the most talented runner to grace the planet Earth. I wouldn't put it at 50/50 but I wouldn't rule it out.
Considering he hasn't run in Olympics since 2012 so it would be amazing if he made team in 2024. He got beat by Rupp in the 10,000m at the last Olympics he ran.
