No, the race was NOT paced at 72 per lap (30:00) as you claim.
One pacing light was set for 29:37, starting slower at the beginning of the race and then getting faster as the race progressed. And the other pacing light was set for 30:40.
And not one women in that slower race got the 31:30 Olympic Trials "A" standard.
So I'm not sure why your comment got so many thumbs up, and so many people are criticizing the faster race where a lot of women did run faster than 31:30.
It doesn't matter how fast it was, I am a fan of Amanda Vestri and delighted she won. And yes for her, it was fast, it was a PB. She wasn't broadcasting to the world that she was going for a standard....What's YOUR problem?? Like I said, no expectations, no pacelights, no drama just a pure joy to watch. Take a chill pill
And then there was the other 10K women's race. No drama, just racing - and was thrilled to see Amanda Vestri win it handily with a huge PB!! Go Cuse!

People support all runners and winners not just the fastest. A clean race with no drama is refreshing. Yes - thumbs up! Why are you so triggered? Too close to home?
This meet was originally designed to be a World or Olympic standard race only. Instead, Monson and Ritz asked for a pace that was astoundingly outside of her capabilities and chaos ensued behind. Hopefully next year this event can go back to what it was intended for.
So many things wrong with this post. You clearly haven't been watching The TEN races over the past few years and you have no idea what you're talking about.
The TEN is designed to be whatever the runners want it to be. It's not ONLY to get a particular standard. That's why The TEN has multiple heats and multiple lights set at different paces.
In 2022, Elise Cranny had her own set of pacing lights so she could try to break the American record. Also in 2022, Grant Fisher and Mo Ahmed had their own set of lights to try to break the American and Canadian records.
In 2023 Monson and McColgan had one set of lights set way faster than any standard so that they could try to break their national records. Runners World even wrote an article right before the 2023 race called "American 10k Records Will Be On High Alert at The TEN on Saturday Night" because Monson was going after the American 10k record, not a standard. The rest of the runners had their own set of pacing lights.
Same thing in 2024 with the fast women's race. Alicia Monson and the Ethiopian had their own set of lights to try to break 30 minutes. What they were doing had absolutely nothing at all to do with what the group following the second set of lights were doing. The second set of lights was set for 30:40.
This whole idea of "chaos ensued" is something that you completely made up. There was no chaos. Clearly you didn't watch the race.
The fact that most of the women didn't keep up with the 30:40 light was because they weren't in good enough shape, which is not Monson's fault.
And there is no "going back" to standards only wavelight pacing because The TEN will continue to set the lights at different paces for different purposes, just like they have done in years past.
Ritz and Monson didn't ruin anything for any other runners. Stop making fake posts about things that didn't really happen.

What do you expect from a team and coach that are narcissistic? Bit them in the arse this time. Made it into a comedic circus act... Actually I thought the ending was very entertaining
Why was Joe rolling around on the track at the end like a jr high girl? Maybe he really is learning from his coach.

Agree. Monson falling off the pace had nothing had zero impact on the other runners in the second group. The second set not only had their own lights, they had two pacers of their own! Gebreselama continued with her lights up front, and Monson DNF'd.
If anything, Monson falling back gave Kelati someone to chase!
The TEN is also not the only race to have two sets of pacers, it is not a new concept. The OP seems new to the sport or just bitter towards OAC.
Also (and this is going to sound extreme in our super meet super spike era) if you need all this help to run a time, maybe you aren’t good enough to go to the Olympic? But who’s to say?
The top 5 in the men's race could've run 26:45 if Nico or Fisher had pushed it from 1200 out. What I don't like is that Monson put off indoors to full-send a 10k for less than 5k.
I was there and from memory, the last 1200 was something like 64, 61, 58, so I think they went for it.
Monson went for it too. Maybe she has a minor injury and thought it would be OK but it got worse. Or maybe she was just having a bad night and decided to save it for another day. She was obviously running hard and could not hang on. She already has the Olympic standard, so was there much point in beating herself up to show others she is vulnerable?

Well if she and Ritz didn’t announce to the whole world that she will be running under 30 and getting an American record with all the big deal of getting pacers and pace lights she wouldn’t have to beat herself up. Next time just shut up and run your race or not. . OAC is just full of themselves. And then they bomb and need to clean up with excuses and team up to take care of social media backlash.
When I heard the plan for Monson to try and run 29:37 for 10k I was pretty surprised. I following what OAC do through various platforms and there didn't seem to be any indication she was at that level of fitness.
On entirely different note why didn't Morgan McDonald race? He was off a strong 5k. Hope he is not injured again.
He said on Coffee Club that he picked up a minor niggle and didn't want to risk it

The entire point of the meet is qualifying times, so yet it does matter how fast it was. Just admit you prefer mediocrity.

The time is 27 flat and like 30:40. If you run that you deserve to go. If somebody was capable of hitting those times why wouldn't you want to see them hit it?

Most of the posters here - Why doesn't track and field market itself better so the sport can get more people to watch the races?
This idiot - Coaches and runners shouldn't market the meets they plan on being in. Keep it a secret so people don't know anything about your upcoming races.
I'm happy to get advance notice of who is going to be at what meet and what plans they have for their races. It makes me more likely to watch the meet.

So your one of the naive suckers that buys the BS marketing ploy to watch a meet that ens up being a total flop. They got your number 😂

Didn’t that make it more interesting? Let’s watch Monson try for a pace that she’s already done, how exciting hahaha. You’re dumb.
