Last year's race was memorable because of Monson vs McColgan. The outcome wasn't clear to me because neither one is agile or athletic with a big kick. Once McColgan cleared her easily I have no idea how anyone set that aside and pretended Monson was in medal contention in Budapest, regardless of position with 400 remaining.
I couldn't have guessed what time they ran last year. The head to head was everything.
In watching the tape today I was hoping they had focused more on Megan Keith. Instead the primary entertainment value was the two women who raised their hands and celebrated at the finish line, despite having another lap to run. The one in yellow walked into the infield beyond the line, only for a guy in her camp to frantically duck under an infield barrier and dash toward her, imploring her to get back in the race. She did, and is seen finishing just before the video concludes.
