It is physically difficult to watch Koko finish this 😬
For real she looked like she was getting tortured. Also why did that one guy yell something at her and then speed away? Also what did she keep pointing at?.
It looked like there were 3-4 hard turns in the last km and she was always looking for the finish and pointing.
I legit thought she was going to step off 2-3 times during that last km. I hope she didn’t reaggravate her injury.
Cheptegei clearly is not interested in running a record he just wants the qualification time for Paris
For anyone who was wondering, yes, this is possible. The official World Athletics doc says
"For the 1,500m, the 5,000m and the 10,000m it is possible to achieve the entry standard in the equivalent road running distance (road mile, 5km, 10km respectively)."
(from page 6 of , linked to from . it's annoying to find because the text isn't searchable.)
As was the case for the Olympic Games in Tokyo and the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, the qualification system will be based on a dual pathway of qualification
For those watching early…how much pacing was there? Yihune was supposed to be a Kejelcha pacer, but he finished so assuming he was not. And there was a little-known Ugandan for Cheptegei but he wasn’t there when I turned it on 13’ in
But it can still be that your national association wants the standard also on the track for the nomination. I think in Germany you always had to also run some "confirmation norm" also on the track.

Yihune paced Kejelcha to around km 4. The 2 of them broke away from Cheptegei quite early.

Impressive for Yihune to finish in 27:23 then. Reminds me of Kimeli pacing Cheptegei to the 10K World Record. I think he went through in 13:07ish, got through one more lap and held on for 27:12 it turns out.

Yep, terrific support and a nice mix of loud and quiet sections. I'd love to run that 10k someday. Chep looks ready to take it to Kiplimo and Aregawi in a few wks. Kejelcha appears fit for Paris already.
Reading the comments, Chep lost to Kejelcha? But still has his record? I am still not sure. But if it was an American/British/Dutch/Norwegian runner, whatever their result, they'd have that spammy homepage thing a minute into their mediocre result.
