Hes at an entirely different level now than in the past. I see zero downside to this. Perfect timing in the right conditions. This could completely set up his year by putting all distractions aside. No need to double at NCAAs this year.
A guy that finished over 26 seconds behind the NCAA X-Country winner less than 4 months ago is going to run under 27:10? It is possible but not likely. Probably 27:20ish would be a lot to ask but much more likely.

I'm excited to see how this one unfolds.
Yes it is exciting. But even running 27:20 at age 21 would be unprecedented for a U.S. runner. So talk of breaking 27 may be premature. He is a gamer for sure.

I would bet on him beating the NCAA Xc champ by over 26s in a 10k in 1 week. Recent form matters a heck of a lot more than a race from 4 months ago.
the 10k or of sub 13:00 guys tend to be sub 27:00 if they run enough of them in decent weather…
Of course it does. Nico is on a hot streak at the moment but I do remember Graham beating him at Nutty and beating him badly in Charlottesville. So much so that I believe Mike Smith had seen enough and moved him to the 3k. I am very impressed with what Nico is doing and happy for him but a healthy Graham Blanks is absolute beast.

I think he is currently in championship racing shape and not 10k time trial shape.. I predict no faster than 27:30, but I think he could've challenged sub 7:30 in the 3k. He is in great Mid-D shape, maybe even ncaa indoor mile record shape, but he is not in Grant Fisher 10k shape, especially considering he got dogged in XC and this is just a modification of that shape (you don't build a base that quickly between peaks).
Also, this is a response to those saying he's GOING TO break 27, I wouldn't be too surprised if he hits the standard as fitness is hard to predict from championship races.

Premature? Are you joking. I'll bet even money up to $10,000 he breaks 27:00. Why wouldn't he? Now the rabbiting neesd to be spot on. If they hire Joe Klecker to rabbit it, I guarantee he does it. Oh wait. Klecker's probably racing. ;)
Seriously though, these shoe companies had better have pooled their resources and hired a top dude to take it 8k.

I am concerned you may have a gambling problem Rojo. You ask why wouldn’t Nico break 27? Why kind of a silly question is that? Why didn’t Ritz break 27? Why didn’t Kincaid or Klecker? I suppose it is because it is not so easy.

There’s no difference between race shape and time trial shape. You need to be in PR fitness for both.
He’s a 5/10 guy at the top of his game, and running 12:57 is a strong indicator of 27:00.

what place did this beast finish in the 3k or 5k? What time is he going to run in the 10k? Looks to me like the numbers are 2-1 in favor of nico right now😂
Let me throw out that if blanks ran a 10k in Nov, I expect he would have been pushing 27 mins also. But there is zero evidence that he was in better shape then than Nico is right now. Nico is clearly better than in Nov. For whatever reason he struggled at the ncaa (sick, missed time in build up, just having a bad day,…) and you would have to be delusional to think it says much about their future relative performances.
Now will Nico actually run around 27? Who knows. That was a big weekend at the NCAA and maybe he is a bit drained. Maybe the pacing or weather is a bit off. If I had to bet the over/under something like 27:10 is probably my line where I would struggle to pick a side. Something like a 27:30 will sort of be disappointing. A 26:55 would be exciting but not some huge break through.
i do love how we have gone from everyone wanting him to run a marathon in 2022/2023 cause he is slow to bunch of people thinking 10k is too long😂

I just posting facts. Graham was crushing him. No one can dispute that

Well he didn’t run indoors. My point is Graham can race. He knows how to win. They are both huge talents but man I’m taking Blanks if they are both healthy. He’s a winner. Who knows when he races again but that kid is tough as nails.

He “crushed” him in one race. Relax.
Most of their races last year had been within 4 seconds of one another. I agree that Blanks is just as talented as Young, but let’s not exaggerate his achievements here.

The old fashioned formula for predicting a 10K time among the elite runners is to double the 5K time and add a minute. So I think he has an excellent chance of getting under 27:08 and a good chance of breaking 27:00
