i just don't know about this. i feel like Nuguse is one of those guys who is incredibly strong inside his own head, can push himself to fast times, has the talent and ability to run really quick... but just doesn't have a racer's mentality or competitive drive. he'll fight against himself, but not against the likes of Kerr/Ing.
Kerr has looked really strong this winter. that strength could be the key to a win for him.
but this is Jakob's race to lose. how much fitness does he bring to this? make no bones, if he shows up, he's racing for the win. hopefully he's not so cocky that he races from the front.
Not surprising. Kerr in Glasgow said some announcements were coming up. It was obvious he meant races and he used plural.
I pick Jakob. He seldom loses. Same theme I used in that Valby vs Markezich thread the other day. Gamblers know the immense value of normalcy when conventional wisdom steers away
He has already been training at full mileage/double threshold since February and he is going to altitude from the middle or end of march all the way until May 25th. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he will go straight from altitude to Eugene.
This is somewhat shocking in the track world. I doubt I’m alone in asking how big were the “incentives” to get these guys to show up?? Please, at least give us ballpark figures of how much they are likely getting paid to do this race.
We just got a press release from TrackTown USA announcing the three headliners for the Bowerman Mile at the 2024 Pre Classic on May 25: Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Josh Kerr, and Yared Nuguse.
It will be Ingebrigtsen's first race of 2024 and his first race against Josh Kerr since he was upset in the 2023 World Championship final.
Who you got???
I predict a record breaking 55 spectators in the stand this year

Jakob just signed a new tv-series to film his olympic season. I doubt he would sign up for that if he wasnt in great shape. He is winning this one.
The logic doesn’t hold for me. The TV series brings in money right? I doubt he’d turn that down just because there’s a chance he won’t have an amazing season. That’s the main thing. And anyway I think Jakob is too uber-confident to even recognize/admit if things aren’t going super well. Maybe he’s in phenomenal shape, but inking a TV deal isn’t evidence for that.
