Major League Baseball sucks!!!!!
Unless you support steroids. Barry Bonds looks like Mr. Potato Head!!!
Good thing we have clean sports like the NFL, cycling, and track and field to divert our attention from those evil baseball players.
major league baseball sucks? have you ever run over students with a tank at a human rights protest in china? bet you have, you communist.
I like Baseball, but not those lazy ass players who call themselves pros. The NFL has random drug testing and those guys are fun to watch.
Baseball blows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was hoping the league would strike so it would end for good. Put Pete Rose in the HALL!!
The NFL has random drug testing, but it doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot, judging by the size of offensize lines (compared to even 5-10 years ago).
I definitely agree that pete should be in the hall no matter how stubborn that guy is. however, i hope that the NFL's drug testing policy is not a major factor contributing to your preference for the nfl over mlb. you're on crack if you think those dudes aren't just as juiced as baseball players.
It is difficult to understand how an endurance athlete can appreciate a 'stand around sport' that glamorizes such unfit athletes. To PRL, What you and Pete do together under the stands at the racetrack is your business, but please don't advertise it here.
So endurance athletes aren't allowed to enjoy other sports?
Please.
Baseball's a lot more fun to watch than what passes for "strategy" in a race.
Who cares if they ever play again. Baseball has been dead to me for many, many years (at least on the MLB level). Too much money, steroids, and too many labor disputes. It's laughable how much money these guys make and they want more, more, more....
Meanwhile, Joe Lunchpail can't take his wife and kids to the game because it'd cost him $200.
The minor league game is still fun to watch. Intimate ballparks, DECENT tickets for $7-$10, fun things for kids, that is where it is at.
MM, You can watch PRL & Pete if you wish. I did not say anyone 'wasn't allowed' to do anything. I said I find it hard to understand........... Please read & synthesize before you strike the keyboard with mindless clutter.
Mike,
Glad to hear someone else say it. I love running as much as pretty much anyone, and I would choose to watch a big time race over a regular season baseball game any day, but baseball has its stellar moments, and if you watched that World Series (I'm sure Vipam will say it shouldn't be called that) last year between the Diamondbacks and the Yankees, then you have seen one of the best,
I never have understood the argument that someone who is a major fan of a particular sport can't be a fan of other sports too.
In that case, I'll try to explain to you what you find hard to understand:
Running is fun, but it's not much fun to watch. The enjoyment I get out of watching it has to do with the degree of difficulty involved, and personal connections with the competitors.
I have no problem watching "stand-around" sports, because they have different elements that running lacks. Baseball (especially in the postseason) provides a certain amount of drama, and enjoyment. Thus, it enhances the quality of my life.
Baseball is also more interesting (easier?) to analyze than track, and can lead to some interesting discussions.
Those are my reasons for watching baseball. I also find it ironic that track fans like to play up the steroid angle when discussing baseball.
Stepay, my previous comment is addressed to "give me speed", not you, just to avoid confusion.
Interestingly enough, if a gun was placed to my head, I would rather watch Game 7 of the World Series than the Olympic 1500m final. At least the baseball players *compete* for the first 5 innings...... ;)
I'm pretty sure I said this somewhere else, and I do share in your frustration with the labor disputes, and you are definitely right that the players have been the cause of most of them, but this time, it was the owners who were the cause. Gotta give the players some love because they conceded on many points this time around (drug testing and luxury tax issue) to make it work, because they realized that that was needed. A-rod offered to give back 100 million of his salary (of course he still has 152 million left plus endorsement deals including 10 million from Radio Shack so he's hardly hurting, but he offered nonetheless.
I do though feel that it was fair for the owners to ask for some concession on the part of players. Granted, they don't need to keep raising the salaries like they have been, but that isn't everything that they have to pay. It is fair for the owners to want to lower money out of their pockets when times aren't as good for baseball due to economic conditions or whatever.
Glad they got it settled. Seems that they have heard what the fans have said. I bet baseball will only get better from now on - except that it really isn't on network television like it was in the 70s, so it is less popular among kids these days - that could hurt it in the long run.
No one's surprised that you don't understand.
Too bad your mom didn't swallow the night you were conceived. You'd do much better as a piece of shit.
choosing to watch a world series game over a 1500m final is a perfectly understandable decision, one which i might even agree with. however, in my opinion, to even try to compare competitiveness in track and baseball on anything but the most basic level is rediculous. regardless, i'll humor you and adress the notion anyway...Do you really think that a baseball team measures its efforts over the course of a seven game series any less than a middle-distance runner would over the course of an important 1500m contest? For instance, i propose that a baseball team down by 8 runs in the late innings of a game is in an analogous situation to a runner covering the front-running tactics of a rival competitor. in both cases, if they are logical, they will reserve their maximum efforts for a point in the competition at which they will reap the maximum reward.
MM, Thanks, That came off like you took the time to read what was said & intelligently respond. I too am a fan of strategy in all sports. I like low-scoring defensive football games, hockey, and the crucial decisions in baseball as well. My 'stand-around' comment was directed at the general poor physical fitness of so many players, although there are exceptions. Because of this and the specific specialization of players (Ex: middle reliever to get out a left-handed slap hitter), I see much of the game as a skill rather than sport. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the strategy of the game, and appreciate what they can do, but get discouraged with skills we are told can only be performed by real 'athletes'. Finally, yes the players do try for the entire game, but if they were all true competitors, many they wouldn't let themselves get so pitifully out of shape in the off season.
I'm sure you're right about who is at fault - I wasn't really paying attention this time, I really quit caring many years ago.
I'd like to see the game re-embrace its roots, but that's a naive thought on my part. Money talks.
Maybe, how old are you? 13? 14?
