If you don't like to compete, get out of the game. Heidesch is the fastest Iowa kid of all-time. That isn't a cut on Washburn. It think that this thread is dominated by Cedar Falls posters. They were hyped last summer claiming that they would win state XC due to a transfer. And there have been a bunch of posts claiming that last year was the best ever for the state. That is an objective fact. stop cutting down the best class ever.
That or you get off the no one will ever be better then Heidesch band wagon cause there’s multiple kids that could do it from bunch of different schools in next 2 to 3 years. And which one Washburn or Heidesch having better college career, now be honest!
Anyone that Doesn’t think we are set up to see some of the quickest 1600/3200 times in awhile at Drake and state if weather is good is just not being honest with themselves. You have
zuber
kifle
Hensley maybe unless he’s in a lot of 800’s
Aldermak
Merrick
Gray
just to name a few
could take a 9:05 or better to win 3200 and sub 4:08 for 1600.

That’s an awkward sounding bandwagon you got there kid.
Heidesch got a stress fracture in early September and is looking to make his collegiate debut inside the next couple weeks, Washburn has gotten solid training and run decent mile & 3k times (and a fine road 10k) but nothing he wasn’t capable of last spring. It’s incredibly catty to try to knock Heidesch by comparing the two, and shows you’ve got a weird biased resentment rocking. I’m hoping of course that both run well this spring and develop as much as possible during their college careers. I think Washburn can run 13:50s this spring and Heidesch can run 3:40, and if so they’ll both be in a good place going forward.
Of course there are multiple super talented Iowa high schoolers who could run faster than 1:50.38 - 3:59.08y - 8:42.60y, if they improve significantly, but the truth is it’s not likely to happen in the next 2-3 years just on an odds basis. I hope someone does run even faster because it would be exciting to watch and good for the state; it’s not personal for me like it seems to be for you.
Good points. Even if Heidesch quit running, that doesn't change his HS accomplishments. Stephanie Jenks is the most accomplished HS runner from Iowa but didn't race after that.
I wonder if Ankeny has a 5th runner for next XC season. They lose 3 varsity seniors but return 4 scorers. They have Zuber (9:16), Smith (9:32), Robie (4:37 / 15:52), Brownsberger (15:52 / 2:08). 5th nonsenior is 16:47, but he doesn’t run track. He does soccer instead.
