Really? I think Dorenkamp runs away in 4:33 while 2nd will be 4:42.
no doubt Dorenkamp wins.
It’s more interesting who else medals. The top 10 underwent a lot of changes in the last week of qualifying.
I expected Hostetler, Steines, and Huck near the top. Huck didn't even qualify.

20 teams in girls' 4x8 and shuttle relay to equalize boys at Drake.
Perfect conditions for 3000/3200. Merrick and Dorenkamp impressive.

I don’t know about “perfect.” 17 mph winds with gusts up to 28 mph—not all of that is going to be blocked by the stadium. Those two sure didn’t let it deter them though.
Iowa all-time best for Dorenkamp at 9:23.69.
The top 5 boys are all returning next year, with 1-3-4 only sophomores. Exciting times.
Your correct wind wasn’t the best and Dorenkamp ran from front and Merrick lead all but about 200 meters. And Merrick with Drake record.
You guys are nuts. 60 and no wind on the track. I was in front row by start line. 99% chance weather could be worse. 1% chance it could be better. Watch the next 2 days to compare.

I was sitting close to you. You’re nuts if you think 20 mph wind is “perfect.” Next 2 days are not relevant.
There was no wind on the track. Both drake records were broken if that provides any info back it up. Appreciate the world. No need to be a downer.
That 3200 was great.
So much depth and young talent in this state.
Dorenkamp elevated herself to top 25 nationally.

Ha, how is acknowledging that they ran incredible races in less than perfect racing weather “being a downer?” Of course there was wind on the track. They could run even faster on a still day.
But we’re at an impasse. It was a great day for Iowa HS track. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
I don't understand what some of you are claiming. Conditions were perfect. They could only be worse, not better. Afternoon at state will be 80 degrees. Morning may be okay but likely will be windier than today.
Obviously we now see that everyone saying last year’s class was the best, isn’t even close to true. The 3 sophomores are all sitting in the TOP 10 in the UNITED STATES for sophomores. Will be the best class for distance running by the time they become seniors. 8:55 from Merrick has him in the top 50 nationally for all classes. 15th all-time sophomore in the United States, ahead of some big names like Galen Rupp and Dathan Ritzenhein. You can always count on Merrick and Zuber to put on a race. Anyone that thinks it won’t be them going for it, needs to rethink. Sure, someone else can always win as this state is incredible, but you can always count on those two to be up front. They peak at the right time, and they know how to put on a show.
I hope that you are correct. But you can't claim somebody is better than sub 4 and 8:40 when they are not close to those times. Only time will tell.
Keep in mind this was run in Iowa in April, not California on a perfect night. The wind may not have been as strong as some here say but it was not negligible. It was an impressive run by Merrick - from the front and out in the wind. With a state of 3 million people, the quality was certainly above average.
