I got surgery two days ago. Previously made a thread on shockwave treatment and documented my experience with that so I figure that I will document my recovery process here.
I got an MRI on my right ankle/heel area back in November and it revealed that I have clear case of Haglund's. I had tried all non-surgical options (new shoes, orthotics, PT, shockwave, PRP) and in mid-November, the doctor that I had been seeing for treatment recommended that I see a surgeon to get their opinion. I was able to see the surgeon right after Thanksgiving and they said it was a pretty standard surgery and that they could go in and remove the bone spur from my heel. My achilles was in great shape so recovery would be much shorter than if the achilles had been damaged.
I was able to get a surgery date for the end of December. I had to fast for 12+ hours before the surgery and on the morning of the surgery, I was given a nerve blocker in my leg so the first 24 hours were not that bad in terms of pain. I got a little bit of a fever/felt pretty nauseous in the evening coming down from the anesthesia/ concoction of pain killers they gave me and slept for a total of probably 45 minutes which was brutal but was able to get some sleep throughout the day yesterday.
Last night (36 hours post op), I developed a bit of pain in my heel area but the pain that I have experienced so far really hasn't been too bad (maybe a 3 or 4 out of 10) When I started to experience the pain with the Haglund's over two years ago, there were days where my heel felt far worse than how it feels right now.
Currently in a splint but going to the doctor in two weeks to get the splint and stitches removed from my leg and will transition into a walking boot.
