My HS team captain is being a creep and the coach/AD won't listen. What do?

You could talk with other girls on the team who are concerned about it and see if they'll talk with the girl's parents, or to their own parents who will talk with the girl's parents.

They'd be the ones to especially be concerned about what's been happening.

In lieu of that, talk with your own parents, the principle, call people on the school board etc.
Since the guy is 18, maybe call the police and report it to them.

A women's abuse group would probably be interested to know of this too.

Not a parent or coach, but I am an adult. Mike would get a sit-down conversation either one on one or with his parents (depends on the parents)... one more chance, if he touches anyone after that conversation in a suggestive, inappropriate manner in a public space... practice, bus, meet, school, work... he's off the team.

Here's the deal, when adults are discussing sensitive topics of a certain gravity.. things like sexual harassment or sexual assault... we tend not use words or phrases like "pedo", "glaze", "dirt", "f*cking weird".

My take on what you wrote, as an adult, is:

An 18-year-old senior boy captain is sexually harassing 14–15-year-old female athletes on the cross country team. The adults who are responsible for caring and guiding these young people have been made aware of numerous instances of inappropriate touching by this individual including an incident in the training room where more concerning things might have happened, but without discussing it with the two individuals involved along with assessing consent, it's difficult to say with certainty if something more serious than inappropriate relations and/or sexual harassment took place.

If I were you... I would inform a trusted administrator at the school... hopefully someone with some authority like a principal or a superintendent... it's been so long since I was in high school, but I was lucky to have had a good relationship and trust with both the principal of my high school and the superintendent of my district.

Guys like Mike will keep going and pushing boundaries so long as people let them. You're in a position where you can help prevent something worse than occurring than what has already has. The state title should be the least of your concerns with a guy like Mike running around your community... in my opinion. You really do need responsible, objective adults who should be professionally trained to deal with things like this to be reviewing the situation.

Yeah, in rereading this (as another poster pointed out, this was difficult to read), I take back what I said in my two earlier posts (I'd delete if I could), there's not nearly enough reliable information with which to give out any suggestions. Only thing I can say is if you're concerned, talk to your parents.

2. It's an important subject, so a reasonable reply might be worth a few minutes of typing to help a guy out.

If he's actually 18, then there are different legal consequences than if he's not. Everyone hates on safe sport, but they specifically call out a 3-year age difference where an "imbalance of power exists". Usually that applies to coach/athlete, but feels appropriate here too.

If he's 18, then coaches, AD, etc., are mandatory reporters and are required by law to report to law enforcement. So if the "adults in the room" are not being responsive, then it's appropriate for you to contact law enforcement directly. However, I would have a conversation with your parents about that first so they can help with that process.

Generally, adults are not blind and stupid. So it's likely that other coaches have noticed. If your head coach is not responding, then try talking to the girls' coach or other assistant coaches about it.

" if he sexually molests her again, we'll remove him from the team" is essentially what you're saying. Think about that... Now imagine if it was your daughter being inappropriately sexually touched.

I don't know the legal rules in this state re: 18 year olds. If consent is possible or not. If so. And she consents, that's a different story.

Xc prowess should have 0 effect on the results of all of this. That's extremely disheartening if the adults said anything to that effect and I'm very sorry.

I'm a little confused why one portraying himself as a high schooler is using the name "washed up hobby jogger." Beyond that, I also think "pedo" is an inappropriate term to use about acts between an 18 year old and a (presumably) 15 year old, and though you described his behavior as "grooming," I'd need more evidence of that. Because he's 18 there may be a legal issue (there would not be in my state provided it was "consensual," but I don't live in California) but I think there is at least a chance you're leaving out some context. You say the girl likes the attention -- are you SURE she isn't a willing participant here? Now don't get me wrong, someone can "like the attention" or mistakenly believe they "like the attention" and the behavior can still be harassment or worse, but I'm not sure I see that for certain here based solely on what you've provided. I'm a coach and have been for over 30 years... I don't like knowing some of the stuff my athletes get up to, with each other and with other students, but you hear things or occasionally see things, it's just reality when you work with teenagers.

But if you are dead certain this is a case of grooming, abuse, and similar, keep shouting about it. If people are dismissing you, tell other people. Anyone. I'd only go to the police if you are absolutely certain his behavior is illegal, but if you are, there's no shame in going to the police.

Worth thinking about what’s owed to Mike and the fifteen year old in counseling. One could frame this as about ethics not law? Or even about coaching not law.

Caring for Mike and wanting team success should extend to guiding them away from conduct that could lead to weighty consequences down the line.

A quick sharp chat could be all it takes.

2. If true, then what is your angle here? High school teens have been having relations since high school was founded. Sounds like Mike took a girl that you were simping for or you are just Mr. Uptight McRighteous and feel the need to throw your weight around.

3. If you did rat this out to the coach, the AD, and you are willing to jeopardize the team's state opportunities, then you just sealed your own fate. Coach knows all about you now - tattletale, putting your own agenda ahead of the team, willing to screw over the rest of the boys to be "right".

4. Continuing to push this may get Mike tossed out but, you will also get ostracized and become the team pariah. You might want to start looking into transfer options.

5. Mike sounds like a creep and will be an outstanding frat brother one day, but is it your place to police his behavior? Are you also alerting the authorities about rumors heard about 18-year-old football, basketball, and baseball players with minor girlfriends?

6. The young lady may be a willing partner in all of this. If so, it is none of your business.

This reads like a how-to manual: "How to Condone Sexual Misconduct and Sweep it Under the Rug" by the Good Old Boys Club. Doing the right thing (not in quotes) sometimes means taking a hit personally. It's called having morals and being a decent human being by protecting someone who may not have the wherewithal to get themselves out a situation they don't want to be in.

OP is not alerting people about rumors. It is behavior that he has witnessed.
