Bode Erickson was talented from the start of his career. I believe his progression tells part of this story that he came into high school on a high level:
4:2X > 4:21 > 4:15
9:22 > 9:12 > 9:08
One thing the stats won't tell you is that Bode Erickson tends to show up well early in the season but then at times struggle down the stretch with injury or mental burnout. This happened in previous years. Bode Erickson had the ability to be a 2x state champion in cross country but obviously didn't get there. Then throw in a nationally emerging teammate in Aloysius Franzen who surprised everyone last year with 1:55-peed and had a breakout fall in cross country with legit sub-15 performances. Franzen had a so-so race at NXN but Bode should be right there with him or ahead of him in most all scenarios.
So what's happening? Injury and burnout due to posting top times early. Looks like he means business this year, let's hope he holds out. Talent is there.
