I can't believe this.
From the race officials:
Forecast says low of 68 and a high of 85. Race threatens to cancel the event by 830PM the night before the race.
Am I insane? Doesn't this seem awfully odd?

They won’t cancel. This is just PR speak to try to absolve them of liability.
‘Likelihood of cancellation remains low’
it’s just telling people to check their email to save some hassle just in case. What part of communicating with people is odd?

You sign a waiver, so there's no issue for them with liability unless it's discovered something nefarious is going on. So don't bother suing. That said, I'm sure it's part of an effort to encourage people to take it easy. I think the language is a little ridiculous, and there's no reason why the races shouldn't start. But I guess the medical team needs to justify their existence.
TCM has historically had great conditions, so a bummer for sure. If it were a goal race for me I'd absolutely be looking for another race in a couple of weeks. Whistlestop isn't a bad option if you're local.
The race director is probably receiving dozens of emails asking about the weather, are they going to cancel, etc.
I ran yesterday evening and it was 84 with a 76 dewpoint. Are people in Minnesota that soft?

are you stupid?
What a bummer. I ran my one and only Trials qualifying time at Twin Cities in 1991. It was barely above freezing at the start and still in the low 40s at the finish. Some people found it too cold, but I thought it was perfect! It was also the first weekend in October.

Did you run a marathon yesterday evening? Guessing not, so not really comparable.

Cool story. What was your marathon time?
Welp, I was wrong, email just went out. Both the marathon and 10 mile have been cancelled today due to heat.
Aged well.
This is insane. Only in America. Why would you cancel the 10 mile? It says 67 degrees right now and the start is only an hour away.
Do people have any idea what kind of weather the Olympics and World Championships marathons were run under?
Does anyone know what the specific wet bulb temperature is at right now that triggered the "Black Flag" conditions? It is too bad that they couldn't still do the 10 mile, but it sounds like it's an all or nothing policy. I do think people would have dropped like flies in the marathon today. I'm pretty sure the sun's gonna be blazing and the temp barely dropped overnight. We had to fire up the AC again.
To the guy saying "bUt LoOK aT tHe OlYmPiCs" you do realize that a huge portion of the people signed up to run today would have been coming in around 4+ hours? That would mean they're finishing after 12:00 since the marathon doesn't start til 8ish. The medical tents and local emergency response would have been completely overwhelmed. It was the right call I think. Unfortunately there's no way to qualify it as "you can run but only if you promise not to use emergency medical services/finish under a certain time." This decision was made for the proverbial Susan from accounting just trying to finish, not the competitive folks or diehards doing 20 milers every weekend.
Unreal. What changed over night that would cause this. It’s 67 degrees out now.
The weather forecast has been the same all weekend. Absurd to cancel so late in the game. They handled this about as poorly as they could have

I think this is a being a bit dramatic. There would have been an increase for sure, but TCM is incredibly well organized, they could have handled it.
They should have started the race and then black flagged it ONLY when conditions actually required it, turned off the clocks, and most people would have either dropped with no official time possible or just taken their sweet time finishing. Both the 10 mile could and should have been run and the more serious marathon runners would have been fine. Instead they have a PR nightmare on their hands because this is indeed ridiculous.

Twin Cities in Motion is an awful race organization. I had a tiny hope they’d suck less with a new leader, but they are just a money grab. Charge ridiculous prices for poorly run races. Glad I stopped giving them money years ago.
This is ridiculous imo.
I did a 10-miler yesterday at the peak of temps, most of it along the marathon route.
It was beautiful, especially the new paving on Summit Ave and the leaves beginning to turn. I was able to stay in shade much of the time, especially along River Road, and there was a nice breeze.
It WAS pretty humid, which I personally love. Saw all the prep—biffies, bleachers, stations, etc.
Totally sucks, I feel for those who got shafted.
