Here is the argument but this is really only an argument that she could run low 48. Her pr is just 50.07, set in 2018, so it seems ludicrous for her to break 47.60. However, at the time she ran her 400 pr, she ran 52.75 in the hurdles. Last year, she ran 50.68, 2.07s faster. If she dropped that much in the 400 (no guarantee; maybe she got a lot better at hurdling, but she may also have dropped that much because her flat speed increased and hence her steps between hurdles decreased), she'd be at 48 flat. She also ran a 47.91 4x4 split in 2022. Of course, that could indicate anywhere from mid 48 to 49 flat speed. Also factor into account that Bol just ran 52.43 hurdles after running 49.2 indoors. Syd has run 50.68 over hurdles. So, at the least she's a gold medal contender in the 400m. And if anyone was a prodigy it is Syd. She was an Olympian at 16 in Rio.

even with two or three under 49, it will be a great season.

Actually Syd's closest 400h time to her 50.07 PR was 53.60. She ran 22.39 and 50.07 as her 200/400 outdoor season openers then opened up in 53.60 over the hurdles about a month later. Her outdoor PR's actually score worse than her indoor PR's because she never raced more than once outdoors. If she had run the 400 even once or twice more, she would've definitely beat or come very close to the original WJR of 49.4 (based on her HS progression, indoor 400 WJR of 50.3, and 400h improvement that season). Same with the 200.
Separately, Syd's relay splits have always converted very well to her flat times. In fact, she's split a ton of 4x4s slower than or exactly equal to her actual 400 capability too. I'm quite confident her 47 split last year will result in no slower than 48 mid speed. Besides, both Bobby and Syd have stated that she was capable of 49.X over 400H last year so that is further indication she was at 47 high/48 low 400 in 2022. And you can bet they wouldn't be talking about the 400 WR now unless it absolutely wasn't in reach.
People look at Syd and think she's a hurdler, forgetting that she absolutely is a prodigy over the flats too. She has only ever seriously raced the 400 indoors...and holds every indoor 400 record she could (WYR, WJR, HSR). There's never going to be definitive proof that she can break the WR until she actually does it but based purely off of past records and progression, we have never seen a greater 400 talent than Syd (and Salwa Eid Naser). Given how young they both are, you can bet they have faster times in them than what we've seen till date.

It's always such a cause for celebration to see someone return after serving a ban for a doping violation.
I was glad when Ben Johnson came back; saw him run in LA 1991 over 60m when he lost.
But, he could not help himself, and eventually cheated again and got caught. I think he was tested four times in one week, the week he got caught.
I suppose you were glad, too, when Justin Gatlin returned after serving not one but two violations. But, hey - it's a totally doped sport so you simply assume that's the score for most top athletes now.

well no. But i am not the type of person who writes someone off for their previous offence. You serve your penalty and u come back.
Gatlin proved himself to be a prolific global medalist and was subject to a high number of tests,.
I enjoy the races/events as they occur, and don't lose sleep over thinking who is clean or not.
Up to sport to adopt appropriate penalties.

2022 NCAA Finals men's 400m hurdles + flat 400 SR/PRs (some didn't run in 2022, some were from indoor, ect. Either way, you get the idea.)
48.70 + 47.26
49.13 + 48.04
49.20 + 46.21
49.24 + 46.64
49.52 + 47.33
49.75 + 46.63
50.10 + 46.37
50.19 + 46.94
50.84 + 46.67
Yes, I know, different hurdle heights, these are men, ect. Still, these guys are elite hurdlers. Their form definitely isn't amateurish which is why I chose this comparison. I think Syd could have run in the low 48s last season and will probably open with a high 48, assuming she runs.

SML doesn't hold every 400i record she could. Yes, WU18B and WU20R (HSRs are not internationally recognized), but no senior marks at all because she is simply not racing. NCAA_R is already for Wilson as is North American record. She can start to set flat marks in Paris. US NR is 48.70 and AR is a fast 48.36 by Shaunae Miller-Uibo so the barriers (especially this second one) are tough.
I've been saying for a while now that I predict both Naser and Syd will beat the 47.60 WR this year
You just showed that you have no clue how strong the 400 world record is. To run 47.60 took a lot of steroids.
There is no doubt that this is one of the toughest records on the books but these are exceptional talents, plus we have nearly 40 years of advanced training and tech now so it's time for these records to come down. We shall see in two months time.

Yes, I meant every 400i record for a youth/junior athlete. The point was just that her progression and potential is ahead of most we've ever seen.

And the problem is?..
That the only way to do this now is to have, starting from a young age, a piss fridge with piss capsules and a piss delivery device and travel with all of these piss items. You can't mask those particular things now effectively with ABP and the current tests.

World records are still being broken - as we have just seen. Where there's a will there's a way ..
