Seriously look for a team with leftover bibs. Two years ago, one local team couldn't even give them away. I was offered a bib but I had no interest in running it. They gave it to a mother an a daughter who hasn't run a step before the race. They only started to run after they got the bibs.
It's the biggest loophole there is. It's intended for teams that are competitive to be able to field a team, since is a club points race. I suspect there are some teams registered with NYRR solely for the purpose of getting marathon bibs though.
This is the way. I am an unremarkable runner. I did not run at Cornell, or any other college for that matter. I still managed to get my guaranteed entry at a NYRR half marathon. If I can do it, surely some ex-Division I runners can do it. If they are north of 35 the time standards are easier (slower).
At this point, the only option for 2023 is a charity. However....they have been filling up very fast, and there is a waiting list for most of those that are still accepting. Remember that the minimum amt to raise is $3000 (some are more). And if you don't raise that by Nov they charge your credit card for the balance. Suggestion for next year - run a qualifying time in a NYRCC sponsored race, if you get the qualifying time there is an automatic entry provided. If you run a qualifying time in a nonsponsored NYRCC race you need to submit your entry on the first day of entries (Feb) and "supposedly" its a first come first serve. Be forewarned that many applied within the first hour or two and didn't get in. And the lottery this year was only a 5% acceptance rate.
I'm a dad of two small kids, early 30s running for 3 years and I just ran 1:18 recently. I was a decent sportsman but not even regional level where I live. I didn't know it wasn't like bq though the first come first serve bit is odd
People are annoyed that you would ask a bunch of other people to waste their time responding to an easily researched question "instead of wasting 20 minutes of your time".
It's the lazy narcissistic lack of respect for others that pisses them off.
What's weak about it? Instead of wasting 20 minutes of my time to try to figure it out at 12 midnight while I watched basketball, I thought I'd ask the forum. I'm stunned that people are outraged that a couple of NYers thought there might be a way to get into the marathon even though the registration period has pased. In NY, you can generally buy your way into anything.
And it looks like that's the case here. All they have to do is fund-raise like 3.5 k? Is that right?
In the past for some marathons, we've had some of these chariteis at major city marathons contact us as they haven't had enough runners.

Just so you know.
Well said. Now lets start a fund me page so we can support rojos corny friends.
This is correct. The only way to guarantee thag a qualifying time will lead to a NYCM is by achieving it in a NYRR race - either one of their half marathon races or the marathon itself. There are limited bibs available for qualifying times achieved in non-NYRR races.
Yes, but they allocate non-NYRR qualifiers based on time. If you're solidly under the qualifying time, you should be in no problem.
Since when? The non-NYRR qualifiers are first-come first-serve, and they fill up about 30 minutes after registration opens
Let me get this straight .... two runners from Cornell, a lower-tier Baby Conference institution, cannot figure out how to get in the NYCM? A marathon that accepts anyone?

Thanks. Good to know from someone who has first hand info. However I find it sad that the two Cornell guys didn’t look into the 2023 process sooner and are now begging others to get them in. Snooze- you lose
You understand that is the answer for us simple folks.
Cornell, while a weak ivy, is still considered ivy and they expect a life of privilege and work their connected contacts. They were expecting him just to make a call and get them in and compt.
