Two ex-Cornell runners of mine want to run 2023 NYC marathon. How hard is it actually to get in?

Tell them to suck it up and train until they can run a 63 minute half. That should be good enough to get into the elite / sub-elite NYC field.

Can't you just tell them to run a qualifying time? Is it really that exciting to do a run in NYC, surely be a better midlife crisis if they actually have to put the work in. You only need sub-1:21 half that should be easily doable for ex college runners given a years training

seriously. former D1 athletes. just go qualify and run in new york next year. What is the rush? kind of embarrassing two capable runners looking for a handout like this.

It's still first come first serve even with a qualifying time. I got in the queue right when it opened, finally got through like 45 minutes later but apparently it was sold out by then. The idiotic thing is they open all forms of sign up at the same time even when you have 2 weeks to sign up for the lottery so their site gets bombarded for absolutely no reason
