Thing I will say about getting into the game, take care of yourself first and you have to really want to do this job and love this work. Also, get to know people. Single best thing I did was introduce myself to all the coaches around the finish line during the meets, networking is huge. Get their phone numbers, make a friendship, talk to them about anything and everything. If/when the time comes for your job movement they may reach out to you or you already have that connection with them, so when you ask if they've heard anything, they'll want to help you. Finally, if you are an athlete right now, use your coach as a mentor and learn what they did, what they should've done, ask about training, ask about resume's, mock interviews, etc. sometimes the best resource for you is right in front of you.
