Factor in the altitude and this is 3:32. For him to be 1.3 back of Nuguse is really good.
It’s 2,000 feet altitude. I know you can find a conversion that will make his 3:34.99 maybe a 3:32.9 or whatever. I would be shocked if Grant is affected that much given the frequency he trains at altitude. Nice bounce back effort, though!

Hoping Grant is so excited about today's race that he'll change his mind and jump into The TEN . . . if not in the 10k race itself, then the 1500 race SoundRunning is holding just prior to the 10k races.

We giving 3 second conversions in the 1500 for 2000ft of altitude now?
Mechaal ran 3:34.8 today at 2000ft vs 3:36.5 at sea level in Lievin. 2000ft for a fully trained athlete really isn't going to count for much. With your conversion Mechaal, who lost by 4 seconds to Ingebrigtsen last week, actually converts to *faster* than Ingebrigtsen's time last week.

his best shot at the 10k might be a 3 lap kick in a medium paced race - he probably has better raw speed than guys like Kiplimo at this point. Not too sure about Cheptegei and Barega who have had really good kicks at the end of medal races but I can see him getting 3rd. In a fast race he isn’t beating Cheptegei Aregawi and Kiplimo.

I disagree on Kiplimo tbh, I think he has deceptive speed. Outkicked Jakob in a 3K over the final 100 and ran a blistering last 150 at Comm games to win the 5,000 over Silver Medalist Krop.

Good run by Grant and Yared, but 2000 feet is not “altitude” for almost anyone other than endurance (I.e., hour plus of effort) athletes from the Netherlands. I’m in Wisconsin and this is only 650 feet above me. Grant and Yared came down from altitude, as you point out, so it’s ridiculous to give them some credit or conversion from sea level.

You are correct, if you live and/or train at altitude you don't get the benefit of the conversion.

Yes Kiplimo has often been as bad it gets at tactics/positioning. His closing speed is actually quite good. The more people around the better for beating him as he has a tendency to miss moves and give himself a lot of extra distance and bodies to pass. Comm Games were ideal for him as he only had a couple guys to deal with.
