Infeld and Dibaba still on entry lists . . . however, per Jonathan Gault post on another thread, Cranny & McGorty out.
With no BTC entrants, would seem unlikely that Grant or Mo show up as rabbits.
Still, excellent opportunity for several men to break 27:00.
Monson's attempt at sub-30 w/Norris rabbiting still seems the highlight of the meet.
I must be looking at the wrong entry list...I still don't see Infeld.
You're looking at the correct entry list. It's updated 2 or 3 times per day, and so there have been several changes to the entry list since the post you’re responding to.
Reading the LRC preview, I'm not as confident that McColgan will run for sub-30 with Monson here. Last year she would have, I certainly think she would have run close to 30 in Hengelo if at least one of the Ethiopians had gone with her. But now, she's in the middle of her London Marathon block and might not be sharp enough for that kind of pace. She might just use this to nail down an Olympic QT.
Alternatively, her marathon training has gone exceptionally well and she's just gotten stronger without sacrificing speed so the British record (30:01) is in play. I hope that's it but it seems like a long shot

Monson's shooting for sub-30 w/Norris as her rabbit.
With no Elise Cranny, looks like everyone else will be trying to get as close to the 30:40 Q standard as possible and pick up as many WA points as they can.
However, can see McColgan and maybe one or two others attempting to stay with Alicia for a few kilos before realizing 3:00/k is too hot a pace and eventually falling away.
Expect this year's World Women's race to be like last year with Monson reprising Cranny's role as the (mostly) solo lead runner trying to stay on or ahead of the AR pacing lights.

Just for the record, last year the women's pacing lights were purposely set THREE seconds BEHIND the women's American Record.
Hence the confusion that many people in the stands had as to whether or not the record was actually broken. (Cranny finished AHEAD of the pacing lights, but BEHIND the American Record.)
Even the stadium announcer was confused and he announced a new American Record even though it wasn't.

Also last year, the meet was postponed to Sunday night due to higher-than-desired winds the night before.
Won't have such a scenario this weekend . . . forecast for 8 - 9pm Saturday is 52 deg w/5mph breeze.
Presume communicating the pace of the pacing lights will be fine as well.

Hopefully they tell the coaches. Last year Cranny's coach was celebrating the "new record" because she didn't know the lights were set 3 seconds slow. Ooops!

Yeah that was super strange. Why did they do that?
A couple weeks before Grant ran his 26:33 last year, he ran his then-AR 12:53 . . . Woody just broke that record while Joe K almost did.
Possible that Woody and/or Joe are going for Grant's AR but have kept quiet about it. If that's the case, then they will need their own rabbit to go out in around 13:20 or so. Should that happen, possible that the rabbit will be none other than Grant himself.
One other possibility . . . Grant and Mo are racing . . . just being dramatic about a last-minute announcement . . . and are targeting their own national records .
Who knows who will be announced as new competitors within the next few days?
Eiiish McColgan was just added today . . . her 30:19 pr from Hengelo last year puts her as the 3rd fastest in the field behind Dibaba (!) and Cranny.
Cheptegei and Kiplimo will be racing the NY Half in a few weeks . . . if they are already training in the US, maybe they'll jump in at the last moment.
One can dream.
I
I was gonna make a logical post on the internet ... but I got high.
I was gonna make a realistic prediction about an upcoming track race ... but I got high.
Now no one takes me seriously, and I know why yeah yeah ...

Temperatures have been well below normal these past few weeks. 52 is great for a marathon but slightly cool for a 10K (best would be 58-63). It will affect the shorter races more.
Hopefully they tell the coaches. Last year Cranny's coach was celebrating the "new record" because she didn't know the lights were set 3 seconds slow. Ooops!

The idea was for Elise Cranny to keep up with the lights until the last lap. Then the last lap she would kick and be able to beat the lights by more than 3 seconds.
But she was a little behind the lights with a lap to go and even though she eventually was able to get ahead of the lights, she wasn't able to get far enough ahead to break the record.
I like Elish for the win over Monson. She had a huge year last year and 30:19 is no joke
Eilish has had an amazing couple of years (14:28/30:19 on the track, 30:19 for 10k, 50:43 for 10 miles, 66:26 for HM on the roads). It's a shame she had her worst performances at Worlds, I thought she had an outside shot at a medal. Her Commonwealth gold made up for that a little, mainly because it was a thrilling race and she had a huge home crowd who were going crazy. I think she's under-appreciated
Anyone else care to make some predictions for the top 5s in both races?
For the men, I like Klecker ftw. I think he can grind out a gap on Kincaid at this distance that Kincaid’s kick can’t close. Grijalva on talent and 3k/5k form for 3rd, and Sam Atkin, a time trial ace who it’s hard to believe just ran 7:31, for 4th. 5th gives me a lot of trouble and is honestly a crapshoot, but I like one of Flanagan/Kiptoo/Mantz over the aged World XC competitors or the Japanese guys with 27:2x PRs. Since Mantz is running Boston next month, I’ll pick Flanagan, but I could imagine Kiptoo having a great result after a strong run at the Houston half in January.
1. Klecker 26:54
2. Kincaid 26:59
3. Grijalva 27:04
4. Atkin 27:14
5. Flanagan 27:21
I could understand someone thinking I’m being too optimistic about Grijalva at 10k - we’ll have to wait and see, but between 4th in the 5k at Worlds and his indoor results this year, there’s no doubt he’s a class athlete.
