Excited to see what Natosha Rogers can run after her recent 14:52 5K.
Will be interesting to see how that mark stacks up on an outdoor track. How many pros have times from BU that they could never possibly touch anywhere else?
The TEN will take place on March 5th and will host one of the best distance nights in the World. Check here for entries, schedule, results, and viewing info.
Six days out, BU Last Chance Meet in the books, so nothing between now and NCAAs except The TEN.
Weather in SoCal a bit concerning given the current blizzard conditions . . . however, forecast for Saturday (3/4) calls for clouds, high of 62 deg, approx 8 mph breeze . . . so, looking really good for the evening races . . . don't think they'll need to postpone this one for a day like they did last year.
Jonathan Gault . . . if you're reading this . . . any chance of getting a pre-meet interview with Jesse Williams/Sound Running owner? . . . very interested in learning how The TEN came into existence . . . thx in advance if you can do so.
The first TEN in 2021 was essentially a BTC intrasquad meet . . . have the impression it was Jerry Schumacher's idea with Jesse being the marketing guy who was the organizer . . . but, maybe it was the other way around.
In any case, after having paid to watch the first two editions, happily shelled out my $5.99 PPV charge to TrackLandia to catch The TEN #3 this Saturday evening.
Pretty conservative paces set for the men. They’re targeting sub-27 so will need a 13:35/13:24 type deal. Hoping they make sure that the lights gradually pick up

. . . pace lights and rabbits gradually pick up.
Which leads to an interesting possibility . . .
Two years ago at the inaugural race, Sean McGorty paced the field thru 8k with Marc Scott ultimately winning in 27:10, Grant 2nd in 27:11 and Woody 3rd in 27:12.
Last year, Woody paced the field thru 7k with Grant winning in 26:33 and Mo 2nd in 26:34.
Could it be Grant and Mo's turn to repay the favor and pace the field thru 7-8k?
I don't understand why people feel it's such a crime to be realistic. If your rabbit is going through in 13:35, the mens AR and Canadian record are not at risk. Sound Running does a great service to the sport but I can't help lumping them in with idiots like Jeff Merrill who are just unable to think critically.
One could even argue hyping up a race to be something it's not leads to more disappointment (ie. Teare this weekend in Boston). Why not just say guys need to run under 27:00?

I think this was stated a little more harshly than it really needed to be but I agree with the general sentiment. Especially stating the US mens 10k record is at risk - no it is not, and it won't be for a few years at least. Pretty much everything about 26:33 went according to plan in basically every way - and Grant is/was very very very very good. Does anyone think any of the guys lined up are in better than Grant was when he ran 26:33? I don't.
the Sound Running Instagram story today did not have , Elise Cranny, Emily Infeld, Sean McGorty, or Tirunesh Dibaba listed anymore but had McColgan added. Have they dropped out?

A couple weeks before Grant ran his 26:33 last year, he ran his then-AR 12:53 . . . Woody just broke that record while Joe K almost did.
Possible that Woody and/or Joe are going for Grant's AR but have kept quiet about it. If that's the case, then they will need their own rabbit to go out in around 13:20 or so. Should that happen, possible that the rabbit will be none other than Grant himself.
One other possibility . . . Grant and Mo are racing . . . just being dramatic about a last-minute announcement . . . and are targeting their own national records .
Who knows who will be announced as new competitors within the next few days?
Eiiish McColgan was just added today . . . her 30:19 pr from Hengelo last year puts her as the 3rd fastest in the field behind Dibaba (!) and Cranny.
Cheptegei and Kiplimo will be racing the NY Half in a few weeks . . . if they are already training in the US, maybe they'll jump in at the last moment.
