This circular argument keeps creeping up on this forum. She’s a leader in NCAA’s who’s on pace as a potential world class elite runner when she reaches the typical age when elite women doing 1.5K-10K peak (24-30)…she may actually be ahead of the necessary pace when you research the elite pro progression from HS to NCAA to pro level. Funny how the existing pro’s know this. I recall seeing her race against them on her last race in 2019, when she finished second just 4 seconds behind the established pro Aisling Cuff in a very respectable 6K time of 20:11…she’s certainly progressed nicely since and at age 20 is inspiring many to enter the sport, especially young women like Cook.

Simpson closed her mile record in 30.70, Tuohy closed in 32.17. Imagine if Tuohy can develop a 30 second close. McCabe and Markezich closed their 3k's in 30 seconds (all steeplers!).
Developing a fast final 100m will help Tuohy in pro races as a lot of pro races are won or lost on the homestretch. Just a thought.
Breaking an NCAA record is amazing enough, but especially one held by Simpson.
I am NOT impressed by this. Simpson was not racing in the super spikes and not sure about the track surfaces except to say that indoors is so fast these days. It is a nice time but nothing extraordinary and also it is what one would expect from her.
Somebody gets it. This is a ho hum performance. Nice but not OMG!

Oh, I thought you were expecting that she would never be a top runner in the NCAA.
Does everyone love Aaron Rodgers? How about Tom Brady? Does everyone love Noah Lyles? Christian Coleman? How about Sifan Hasan? Jenny Simpson? Sport is exciting because we can cheer for somebody to win and somebody to lose. It happened in Roman times and happens today.
Imagine how good she will be when learns to kick. People were predicting a 16 second last 100.
Since she closed the last 109M in just under 17.8 seconds it seems reasonable that the last 100 was done in about 16 seconds. Did I miss something?
If, however, you’re point is she should have closed in ~15 seconds, that’s not a significant difference. At the very least it doesn’t signify a developed kick vs. a typical non-pro close. At 1200M Tuohy threw in 31 second lap to move past Ortyn…perhaps she might have held that push for the final lap and she might have been able to match Monson’s 30.7? This type of thing comes with experience and Katelyn isn’t the type to repeat a mistake, if you consider this to be one.

I think the prediction was go thru 1500 in 4:08 and then close in 16, which has to be for 109, not 100.
