Regional Distance Schedule

That is ridiculous.. I thought the whole point of having the regional championships was to put an emphasis on head to head competition. There also can be no logical reasoning as to why they would have 5000 heats, but not steeplechase ones. Some runners in the steeple may not be ready to run their fastest until regionals, so there seed time may be considerably slower than in the regionals... This seems to be a little short-sighted of the organisers..

There is no heats of the 5000m. Whomever told you there was is full of shit. There are heats at Nationals, NOT Regionals.

it's a lot easier to put 40 guys in a 5k than it is to put 40 guys in a steep. There'd be mass carnage.

I've already hit the time and I'm just buckling down and getting in some fast races to get myself in that 'A' heat. I'm not gonna be pissed at the organizers if I don't get it either because if I'm not running under nine I don't deserve to be in the big show 2 weeks later.

ps. And yeah, there is no prelims at regionals. Everyone always thinks something's unfair if it was the another way people would be bitching about how it was being done too.

I maintain:

There should be a 10k in the regionals.

If someone wants to double in 5k/10k at nationals, fine, prove you can do it at regionals effectively.

The way it is now, a runner qualifies for the 10k in March and the 5k in late May. Then at nationals he/she is supposed to magically be able to do both in a few days.

Doing the 10k on time only makes no sense at all, really. The 10K is affected more than any other track event by weather, pacing, etc.. Yet, the current system has 10K qualification by time only. That is just backwards.

If there are heats in the steeple:

I am willing to bet that a few people make it out of the slow heats of the steeple because of less traffic up front. Being able to hurdle in the clear is less stressful and could possibly make a difference late in the race.

Also think about traditional qualifying races. Most of them tend to be sit and kick. If the first race is sit and kick, that opens the floodgates in the second heat. I would rather be the top seed in the slow heat than the slowest seed in the fastest heat.

Regardless of how hard the steeple is vs the 5k, neither is as hard as beating SYRACUSE BASKETBALL!!!!!

Last I heard (and I heard it at an Div. coaches association meeting) there were no prelim heats in the steeple or 5000 at the regional meets. The steeple will be divided into slow and fast sections if necessary and the 5k guys will all line up together in one race.

By the way, if you can't get in the fats section of the steeple at the regionals you have no room to complain! You're just lucky the standard is so weak this year!

Hey check out the event at 8:30. This is from the NCAA website. Guess you really are the dumbass!

It could be a typo, or maybe the final was left off because the Regionals Schedule is not yet final-at least it wasn't at the coaches meeting in Fayetteville because some locations will have to adjust the schedule because of facility concerns-hell, some coaches WERE STILL upset about even having regionals at all, and some did bring up the point about the decathlon/heptathlon and 10,000m needing to be contested at the regional. The National schedule wasn't final either because it still had to be accepted by the championship commitee AND the group out in Sacramento- either way it seems to have been all left for the last minute.

There is NO 5000m prelims at regionals that would be stupid no coaches would agree to that. If they do anything there will be a slow and a fast heat but in a 5k you can have 40 people in a single heat so it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, you are competing against guys in your event, not guys in other events. If less participation in the steeple warrants no prelim, so be it. What's the difference as long as everyone in the event does the same thing? It's not the 5,000 event against the steeple event.

Dick for brains...look at Saturday and tell me where the f***ing final is! That's right...there is no final listed because there isn't one. Asswipe! It is a typo and any idiot could figure it out except for you, obviously.
