I’m racing a 800m in a week, and wanted to know if the workout I did indicates I can run under 1:59.
600m - 1:30
(6min)
600m - 1:32
(2min)
400m - 61
(6min)
4 by 200m - 29,29,28,27

This was the 4th speed session I’ve done this training block after a long period of threshold only and some easier hills. I would appreciate your input!
Yes, you should be there. However, it's only your first race, so you may not be fully ready for the final 200. Still, being able to close in a 27 bodes well for you
with the workout you did, you'd be better off going 600m at 1:29 (2 min), then 400 at under 60. that alone would be enough, but could add on some 200s if feeling good
Yes, I was thinking of doing the 600m + 200m workout for the last hard session 7 days before the race. 200’s after should be fast w/ long rest or short rest and more at target closing pace?

I use 4 types:
A) Long Recovery Reps (1) 4x400 (4min rec) (2) 3x500m (5min rec) (3) 2x600m (6min rec)
B) Short Recovery Simulations (1) 2x400m (60sec rec) (2) 500m (45sec rec) 300m (3) 600m (30sec recovery) 200m

Short rest and more at target closing pace. Based on what you told me about your 400 split en route to the 600, I’ll say you have a better shot at slipping under 2:00, but the pacing will have to be great in the race. Any idea what seed times are like for people around you?
My go-to peaking 800m workout (usually run in May or something though)
3 x (500, 30 sec rest, 300)
Long recovery between sets.
3x 200 (flying start)
When I first went sub-1:59, I did:
1:13, 45
1:14, 44
1:12, 45
27, 26, 25
on each of the 500s, I was coming through 57-59 on the 400.
In the race, I was 57-high at the 400 and finished with a 1:58.3.
i mean, probably, but the crucible of racing does things to you that you'd be hard pressed to achieve in training, regardless of how fast you run your workouts. If sub 2 is your goal, go into the race planning to run that. if you fall short, evaluate your race and see what changes you may need in training or for the next race in order to achieve your goal or if you need to change it in order to be realistic for your current fitness. if you far exceed your expectations, set a loftier goal.
You should be there or at least really close. Encouraging coming off of your base without a ton of speed. Go out in 58 when you race. Maybe you run 2:00-2:02. You'll hop under in no time.
Thanks for all the advice guys. I’ll have tons of guys (1:54-1:57) around my PR (1:57) in my race so it should go out fast. I’ll set my goals on splitting 58 and coming back as fast as possible to capitalize on my strengths. I’ll update in a week if anyone’s interested how it goes.

Damn it! Would people stop posting questions like this? No one knows what time you would go! You know why?! Because every person’s body is different. That workout means one thing for you, and something else entirely for someone else.

By the way, you are very fast, you’re training hard, and you’re going to do well. Godspeed.
