well about 10 miles from the usc campus there is a place that is called harbison forest it has some pretty good trails and it is a good place to get in a good 10 mile run. I run with some guys on sunday morning right by the colesium in some neighborhoods near by but really the campus is spread out and there isn't many places to run in downtown columbia
A. Right off the south end of the campus by the track is a nice neighborhood called Shandon. Its very nice for just running in a neighborhood, but again it is just city running. However I do alot of my shorter loops in there, and you can also extend some of those loops to a 10 miler that goes through downtown (kinda crappy though)
B. Canal Park which is just maybe 2 miles NW of campus has a wide, flat, and more or less straight trail along the river that is really boring if you're doing distance, but its fairly well marked and is good for doing shorter tempo runs.
C. Harbison State Forest has an excellent 10 mile trail loop, and it is about 15 minutes drive from campus.
D. At Ft. Jackson there has a nice trail running along the edge of it that is not unlike the one in Harbison, but isn't as well known/used and can only be used for out and backs. Its called the Palmetto Trail and I believe it actually runs across the length of the state. I prefer to do as much of my longer distance runs here as I can. It is also about 15 minutes from campus.

before you come down, and maybe we could arrange it so a couple of the other guys on the team and myself would show y'all some of these places.
There is also Sesqui State Park off Two Notch Road and easily accessed from USC. There is a 3.5 mile perimeter dirt loop with shade... a very nice loop. There is also a mountain bike trail that is very twisting. Hard to run quickly on but it is fun to run! From USC track go east on Rosewood (this is the street behind the track). Cross Garner's Ferry Rd., go past McDonald's and you'll merge into Ft. Jackson Blvd. You'll hit I-77, get on it towards Charlotte. Exit at Two Notch Rd., go right. Sesqui State Park will be on right probably about 2 1/2 miles. About a 30 minute drive.
