Coach Wiley just completed his 50th year as the coach. You are thinking of the school in Texas. This Rio is in Ohio

Yes definitely was thinking of UTRGV. Who the hell named a school Rio Grande in Ohio?! I learned something new today.
Even stranger, the most famous male athlete from that school -- Bevo Francis!
Re: Central Washington University - Head Coach - Ellensburg, WA
I coached there for two years as a graduate assistant '95-'97, and I can't believe they didn't renew the head coach. He's an alum with exercise science graduate degree and sound training practices. He worked in the trenches for more than three decades with little support and less than ideal conditions. They only have one full-time assistant position for men's and women's 3 sports: XC, indoor, and outdoor - and that position was added years after I left. They tended to fill out with assistant football coaches who needed FTE hours. I haven't been around the program for a long time, so maybe that has changed.
It's a difficult place to recruit since most kids want to stay on westside of the mountains in either WA or OR. Also there aren't good alot of options for distance runners near campus, so lots of running on pavement. And the wind kicks up every afternoon not to mention snow in winter and no indoor track. CWU is renovating the field house, so that may be an improvement but anyone taking this job should know you will be traveling a minimum 2-3 hours each way, every weekend to the closest competition - it's a grind. I like Ellensburg - it's great small town and place to raise kids.
It may be a better place for someone wanting to build a sprint and throws centered program, since the facilities are more workable. The University itself has grown over the year and offers many desirable academic programs.
Traveling 2-3 hours each way, every weekend? That's what all of us do and much much worse. That might be a grind to normal folks, but not college coaches.
I wouldn't apply for this job because of the AD, bad reputation, kind of a joke he has that job, probably be awful to work for, also not great facilities.
NC State has an opening posted. Who is leaving?
Anyone have any idea why the Concordia Ann Arbor head coach left? Where did he go and who will like be the new head coach?
Yes I started out in So Cal with many local meets and a lot less travel. The two years at CWU was likely more typical situation for many colleges and had me rethink my career path.
Do they have maps in Ohio?
Boston College - Assistant
CUNY hires Miranda
Illinois Weslyan hires Marino
Wims hired by BC
Nebraska Weslyan coach Bulling retires
BYU’s coach Robison retires
Indiana - Assistant (sprints/hurdles)
Ryan Hill out.
He was a volunteer?
That's really unfair. The program is so underfunded, and it's not easiest place to recruit due to climate and facilities. He was named GNAC coach of the year along the way and gave 30+ years of his life to the program and had a positive impact on many students as well as the university.
I think it is a new position- current positions for distance @ NC State
-director of ops
-recruiting coordinator/ assistant coach
-head mens and women's (seperate)
-GA.
Probably would be one of the current positions specifically listed if someone was leaving? Maybe turning GA position into full time?
Actually 2 BC positions, both distance. One for men and one for women. Oddly the pay scale for the women's position is lower than the one listed for the men.

I noticed that, lol. I was thinking maybe that was the projected pay scale? That would be crazy to publicize that.
