Huge marks for both Sainsbury and Heemeyer.
Do either go sub 4 this year?

Jacob Thomas from Rocky is not that fast. He has something for band the same days as JV districts, so he had to Run a varsity standard time to avoid that conflict. Similar to Keith Uitewiligen, Jacob will be doing marching band in the fall so he might do well in the early season but his wheels fill fall off before districts just like Keith.
I wonder how this will play out come NXR.
Jacob Thomas might not even be good enough to score for Rocky next fall.
Because Rocky also has Sam Jensen who seems to be getting back into form after being their #6 last fall and ending his season early. So he could be their 5th behind Keith U / Lucas / Tuft / Reed (if his track success translates to XC)
If they become nothing more than a 5-man team, it won’t be a huge problem. They will just all need to be on during NXR
Just to clarify, Keith U will be graduated come XC season
Keith failed band, so he will be getting an extra Covid year next fall, they could be stacked, if their band kids keep failing.
Actually yeah it’s Heemeyer that will be back, not Keith
Rocky boys are out in full circle jerk mode right now. Don’t injure yourselves patting yourselves on your back too much, now.
Maybe Sainsbury. I don’t think Landon is fast enough at 800m to do it yet.
I don't think there's "patting of the backs" going on from the the Rocky Boys, it's more of a fun way to point out the funny things that get put on these message boards from people who have no idea how different programs operate. I believe the word for this is trolling....these boards speculate some hilarious things, so it seems like the Rocky boys or someone closely related to them find a great deal of humor seeing what the next random person may interject regarding the future of the team. Culture guides their expectations and beliefs, which guides their behavior, which guides their habits, and all of that shapes their future.....not times that kids run or what people from the outside speculate.
I think that most of the absurd things that get posted on here regarding what Rocky does or doesn't do at practice are clearly tongue in cheek, which leads me to think it's guys on the team posting that more than anything. The fact that they spend so much time on a message board is probably the most interesting thing about all of this.
Rocky is well coached, they currently have a good culture, and get kids out and keep them out. They also appear to be spending a ton of time posting about themselves on an anonymous internet forum. It's all a bunch of outside noise and the best thing that teams can do is try to tune that out, because eventually it will get intrusive and won't be a good thing.
Even better, they realize none of this matters (times or places in running). So might as well find humor and enjoy the journey.
Maybe this current group does understand that at this moment. But priorities change, and the group of kids will turn over. There will eventually be a point that this turns toxic.
so I know you guys are all talking about ty Sainsbury this and Landon Heemeyer that. But I think that the main threat you guys have forgotten about is porter Carlson... He has been secretly training 200 mile weeks and blamed it on an injury to go unnoticed. he recently ran a 1600 time trial in only 3:58. There is more time he can take off. so good luck sleeping knowing that we have a sub 4 runner
Rocky Mountain has depth!
Some Rocky Mountain guys will be running in this
Looks like Hemeyer and Sainsbury are the top seeds for both of their respective events. Will either of them, or perhaps both of them get a win?
Also, are there any other Idaho kids that got in? I know that many raced last week at Oregon Relays and did phenomenal.
I think Rocky is the only Idaho team going this year.
Lots of Idaho results that should clarify things.
Boise and CDA at Legends Invite- Noe Kemper is squaring off against Brody Hartley (1:54.98/4:10.97 full mile/8:52.81 3200), Lachlan May, both Cervi-Skinner brothers, Ezra Teeples and others in the 1600. Kaden Helder is running the 800 against Lachlan May and a couple of the Boise ~10:00 3200 guys should have a good field to go faster.
Matthew Thomas is making his outdoor debut at Tiger Grizz in the 1600 and 3200. Owyhee is traveling to this meet, and there's good fields for them. The North Fremont boys have come down as well, so they should get a good shot to go fast.
Bandanna has good 800 and 1600 fields. The 800 has Statdlander and Bryson Blaser headlining with Oclan Ryan and Thomas Stevens as the other sub 1:58 guys, then a slew of 1:59 guys. The race should set up for a bunch of 1:56-1:58 performances. The 1600 has Bryson Blaser, Nico Mann, Statdlander, Andrew Ringert, and Casey Crumley. The top 4 seeds all look like they have more to give than what they have run this season.
It's a shame that Bishop Kelly is hosting the Knight Invite. It looks like all of their guys are really running the 1600. It could have made that Bandanna field awesome.
Rocky is at Jesuit, with good opportunities to run fast there.
Nothing too notable from performances yesterday. It was super windy in Boise (15-18 mph, gusts up to 30), so hard to gauge what anything means. There's going to be some super wind-aided performances from any track that has their finish line on the south side of the stadium. Eagle did have 3 boys go 4:31/4:32 yesterday- probably to get districts marks, and Owyhee and Capital did have some strong 200m and 110mh performances. One of the Stockett brothers went 1:58, as well. Good weather has been hard to come by this spring so far, but today and tomorrow look promising for Bandanna.
Most teams will likely load up 4x400s this week or next. The only missing puzzle piece in 5A remaining is going to be the 4x800s and who runs it. Rocky and Boise are in a tricky spot where they may have to have Sainsbury, Heemeyer, Lucas, Kemper, and Helder try to go 4x800, 800, 1600, 3200 as both teams might be competing for the state title and every point is going to matter.
I should say that I think the 3200 will likely determine the state title. If Rocky qualifies 4 of the 5 of Heemeyer, Sainsbury, Lucas, Keith U or Hunter Hill, it makes it really hard for Boise to win barring a complete meltdown at State from those guys and really makes the meet between Centennial and Rocky. As 3200m drop down performances go right now, Rocky scores 22 points in the 3200m at state and 26 at the district meet. Kemper is seeded 7th in the district and Helder is seeded 9th, but their lifetime bests put them at 4 and 5 and bumps Cody Lucas and Keith U to 6th and 7th in the District and possibly out of scoring at State once the CDA boys are factored in.
Centennial is by far the most complete team in 5A right now. They score in the 100, 200, 800, 1600, shot, disc, long jump, triple jump, and should be a top team in every relay. Rocky is missing all the sprints, the 4x100, 4x200, and throws, and really is going to have to try to qualify every guy they can in the distance events. Boise scores almost nothing in sprints and throws combined, but has good relay teams. Rigby is a complete non-factor in every flat running event, but is great at hurdles, jumps and is solid in jumps and relays. They will benefit massively by the much smaller district as they should easily qualify all of their relays. I don't think there is another team that will compete for a trophy unless one of these teams has a truly disastrous day at either Districts or State, or if a coach doesn't seed them optimally.
Ridiculously fast weekend. Here are some of the highlights:
Nate Stadtlander and Kaden Helder both have incredible 800m efforts, running 1:53.45 and 1:53.71 respectively, moving into 2nd and 3rd place in Idaho at the moment, just 1 second behind Tyler Sainsbury.
Speaking of Tyler, he raced against a stacked Jesuit Twilight field, winning over Tyrone Gorze himself in a new PB of 4:05.41 for a full mile.
Also at the Jesuit meet, Landon Heemeyer and Cody Lucas from Rocky have outstanding performances of 8:59 and 9:12.
Matt Thomas returned to the track after a months long hiatus at the Tiger Grizz invitational, running a solid 9:34 for the win.
Districts and State are poised to be an incredible battle.
