You've obviously never met anyone who's father is in law enforcement. The son of a cop getting caught drinking is about the least surprising thing in the world.

It isn't a school event. The coach couldn't hold him out. My coach didn't go to NXN when my teammate qualified.

this is running. times and places are what compare results. nothing else.
Many of these school policies say that a kid can be suspended or dismissed from their extracurricular for getting caught with substances "while in season, including any postseason competitions" even if they're not at a school sponsored event.
Perhaps the club format of NXN would allow someone to protest that certain school policies about school events or being in-season shouldn't apply, but it would depend on the exact wording and how it's applied, both in school and NXN documents. In any case, a kid who drinks at NXN is breaking the spirit of the policy, if not the exact letter.
I'm not really sure why you're so resistant to the idea that AS could get dismissed from the team for breaking a school rule about underage drinking. This happens all the time, at almost every school in the country! It's a bummer for the kids that get caught, and it doesn't mean they're "bad kids," but handling scenarios like this is a familiar part of being a high school AD. His parents would have a really tough time arguing that AS's rights were violated in such a scenario. Even if they thought they had a chance due to the unique structure of NXN, I doubt most families would spend the time and money to argue that their kid is legally entitled to stay on a school sports team for six more months after doing something that all 17 year-olds know they're not supposed to do.
Myself and a group of athletes got super drunk at outdoor Nationals my senior year many many years ago. It’s always happened. Many HS mods are very immature and I was one of them. Didn’t Tim Broe get sent home from Foot Lockers two years in a row!?
The bigger story here is the intra team beef that led up to the race which, coupled with the alcohol/kicked off the team issue, is high drama.
Good on Aaron. The sport needs someone fun to start winning anyway. Celebratory drinks won't hurt anyone let the kid have some fun for crying out loud he's dedicated 4+ years of his life to this who cares if he wants to get a little rowdy after. I'd rather kids win and then go celebrate a little than have no personality and pretend they're too good to celebrate. Bring out the champagne and cigars for NCAA titles- make it more fun to watch!

For starters, L&L are pros in high school, with multiple corporate sponsors and product lines, with a coach that is flaunting NCAA rules through the control of Newbury through his wife. The silent resentment for the Youngs and their coaches runs silent, but deep, and nobody wants to see an actual teenager get punished for doing teen things, but really for annoying the Youngs and bringing down the brand value of their name and their coaches' name.
Kids drink at NXN almost every single year. In the two years I went they were pretty good at checking bags and stuff, especially during the evening of the dance, but obviously there are back doors and if you want to sneak it booze it's really easy to do so. It was common knowledge who had alc if you were looking to drink, but the majority of athletes just minded their own business.
With that said, this story isn't about the underage drinking, it's about the fallout of the greatest high school xc team of all time.
I went to NXN and my team also went to Penn Relays. Everyone drank after they raced.

prior to the after party the young’s looked like sore losers. And regardless of what Aaron did later the fact that the young’s didn’t congratulate him and then unfollowed him on IG makes it look like they are mad they were beat. These kids have been running together for years and Then their team mate is kicked off the team at nationals and these kids don’t even care!?!?!? sounds like the team has been toxic for a long time and it’s every man for themself-or in this case for the youngs. We have all been sold a social media lie. These kids only care about themselves and they hate each other. Also worth noting that Brosnan unfollowed Aaron. I am stunned that the kid that helped them win a national title and won individually has been strung out in the cold. I get that rules are rules but he didn’t cost the team a title-they should be surrounding him and supporting him. But they got beat and they are pissed about it. And they care about their brand and that’s all. Not about being an actual team mate. I mean even Shelby’s team mates supported her and her burrito story. Sore losers is what it looks like on the outside.
The rumor mill stuff is fun to read about because I have no stake in it, but posts like these are soooooooo dumb. This is someone who's trashing 2 high schoolers for how they acted based on anonymous LR posters and Wesfly. Personally, I'm surprised they've acted as well as they have. L&L are 2 kids with very large followings and a lot of influence who were wronged by a teammate and friend, and they have kept their issues completely private. The framing of this as the Youngs only caring about themselves when we have absolutely no info on how any of them have acted outside of Aaron leaking numbers is idiotic at best.
It's completely possible that Aaron just pulled a prank, didn't realize how much it would impact them, and tried really hard to make amends for a dumb mistake he made, and that L&L refused to let it go, tried to get him kicked off the team, are mad he beat them, and are just sore losers. But you know what else could be true? Aaron pulled a prank trying to get them off their game, didn't apologize, refused to make any amends, continued trying to sabotage them, and after the race was a sore winner. With the info we have now, we have no way of knowing if what's true, and I certainly wouldn't try to use anonymous message board posters and mfing Wesfly as sources.
Also some of you really show your age with how you engage in social media. First off, social media is a lie. Every single kid out there posting on Instagram is not posting about their everyday happenings. They're posting about when they go out with friends, go to games, dances, etc, basically just the highlights of their lives. They're posting pics without Aaron for the same reason people delete posts of their ex-girlfriends: you don't want someone you have beef with to be a focal point in your presentation to other people.
IF Aaron did something worth being very upset over, then the Youngs are completely justified in being pissed that they lost. Whether or not he did, we'll have to wait and see, but you're jumping to conclusions so far away it would make Bob Beamon proud, and you're attacking high school boys based on that. Based on your response here, I think if you were in their situation you'd handle it way worse, so you're in a position to judge.
Seems To Be Real with a coach that is flaunting NCAA rules through the control of Newbury through his wife.
My understanding was that it's perfectly legal for an NCAA coach to coach high-school teams so long as they don't recruit there more than other schools. Since the Youngs are heading to Stanford this isn't illegal. If they flipped yeah the mob should come with torches after Brosnan, but he hasn't done that yet. Especially at D2/d3 where Assistant coaching gigs are part time, it's not super rare to have a coach with a role at a high school.

For the record, it was a parent that called the cops on AS and co. Drinking happens every year at NXN, but the group in AS's room was making it just a little too obvious.
This is categorically false. I'm not saying whether or not AS drank alcohol on Saturday night, but the cops were not called.
Well I was there. I watched the entire race and the aftermath at the finish line. And based on what I SAW WITH MY OWN EYES-they appear sore losers. With zero information of the before drama and the fall out after-in that moment they look like sore losers. I was also at the state meet a week earlier and saw the twins having their own drama after the race and their mom got involved. I SAW THAT too. They were fighting and their mom separated them. It was awkward for the few teams that were witnessing the fight after they just dominated the race. So based on what I have personally seen they are not good sports regardless of rumors and drama. And my point about social media being a lie is exactly as you said-it’s a lie yet everyone thinks the young’s are great people based on social media. I have seen in person terrible sportsmanship away from the cameras.
Lex still follows him, Leo does not, Wesfly CEO deleted the original post saying he talked with Lex Young about it, said some of the stuff wasn't totally backed up.
I'm reserving judgement about everything that supposedly happened. These are still kids. Now is the time for adult leadership to step in and sort everything out. If, in fact, Sahlman has been kicked off the team I hope he learns from it.
I was at NXN, talked to Aaron 30 seconds after he finished. Can confirm he told me personally that he was going to fly home after the race to work on school work undistracted. All images and videos of him in Portland Saturday night are computer renderings by FOX.
Bruh there are way too many rumors at this point. If you want to make a claim you should provide some kind of evidence other than "I saw it happen"
