Reading comprehension matters. A LOT! Read that sentence again. And again. Wazzu1452 accused me of questioning Rupp’s mental toughness. I did not. I said “they are both (Conner and Galen) tough.” Maybe some of you do need to get an education before it is too late.
what I’ve taken away from your obsession with trashing galen is I think you have a crush on him.
Please note examples of where I have trashed Galen. You remind me of those gnats on the windshield who were Shelby defenders.
Buzz me when another American medals in their second ever marathon in a race that has Kipchoge in it. On that note alone it is unlikely Mantz will surpass galen.
Marathon GOAT himself Eliud Kipchoge recently said Rupp could break his world record.
Wigs you and I have a different definition of recent. I believe Eliud said that in 2016.
No, it was in an interview around Berlin time with one of those brojo minions. He said something about Rupp, like "yeah" when asked if Rupp could break his record.
Don't blame me for being too lazy to hunt this down and prove it, you would too.

When I challenged you to be held accountable for your assertions, you change the subject. See I have no horse in this race. You do. This separates us in ways you cannot begin to fathom.

Dude in your first post you stated that Conner is “as good or better than galen was on the track” at his move to the marathon. That is trashing his accomplishments because he was the national champion in both during Olympic trials competitions and then placed 5th and 3rd in the world. In comparison Conner Mantz one year ago on the track beat galen by a single spot in the 10k at the trials, 5 years removed from his move to the roads. I believe you also credited his rio marathon success to shoes despite not mentioning kipchoge was also wearing the same thing in rio.

Galen had a shoe advantage (against most of the field) which does makes his marathon medal appear to shady and not deserved. Rupp was a better track runner than Mantz. That is not up for debate. Mantz is now the better runner and he would likely beat Galen at any distance.
He ran 2:06 at Chicago last fall in tough conditions. Get outta here. Even walking it in at world’s this summer he basically ran what Conner did yesterday. With a bulging disc. You are simply delusional if you think a slower time is superior because someone else you like better ran it.

The issue here is that we have seen what Galen can do. He is now getting worse. Conner is 25 so he is possibly going to improve. Galen cannot. So moving forward Galen cannot beat Conner. This seems obvious. Galen was a better all around runner than Conner. But not anymore.
Carlos lopes won 1984 Olympics at 37 and broke the WR the following year at 38. Meb placed fourth in the 2012 Olympics at 40+. Seems to be a lot of evidence that men can run quite well at this particular distance beyond track age.

Actually not much evidence. It is like saying mid 30s is the best age for tennis because of Nadal and Djoker. Although super shoes and PEDs are certainly X factors here.
no evidence other than all of the relatively recent greats have shown it is possible to PR well into their late 30s. I didn't go to the university of giant smug-assery, but i believe that is what they call quantitative empirical evidence.

It is possible that the super shoes are making a huge contribution here. Kipchoge was close to the best runner in the world 19 years ago. He has not improved much. His shoes have and maybe his cocktails and training.
I find I have to side with Xoxoxo and a few others. Kipchoge and Rupp both broke the 'type of shoe available to all' rule. Maybe that's not the exact wording of it. It was a few years ago when it was quoted endlessly on this site. That article, section, or whatever has been revamped, so the exact words of today mean little in regards to the point I'm getting at.
Anyway, was Kipchoge's Gold undeserved? It seems more OK to say Rupp's Bronze wasn't. That sentiment is tolerated by at least some. To say the win was the result of cheating is absolutely taboo here. But we're left with a binary choice:
1. 'The Shoes' were so much better than anything available prior - or even at the time - that they were worth minutes. With an 's', as in plural. To suggest otherwise is simply ridiculous and proves that Mizuno or somebody is paying you to post. There is no debate.
If #1 is your choice, EK is out of the medals in Ryan Hall's asics. Rupp is running in the neighborhood of 2:13 and behind Ward. This COULD BE true.
2. Kipchoge was at that time - and still is - by far the best marathoner. Not just active in the same era, but all time. He wins the Rio race easily - by minutes, plural - in Hall's asics. 'The Shoes' had no effect on the outcome since they are, quite simply, no better than what Ward was wearing. In Kipchoge's case, and possibly Rupp's, they had a derogatory effect. If the entire field were issued identical footwear prior to the gun, the same medalists would have made a mockery of the field. The medal ceremony would have already happened and the cameras packed and left by the time Ward entered the finish straight.
If #2 is your choice, you are saying the medals would have been the same regardless of shoes. You are also saying the Nike Vaporfly was and is a joke. This COULD BE true.
While either of these COULD BE accurate, they BOTH simultaneously cannot be. Either Rupp was, on that day, slower than Ward all else being equal, but the 4% really is worth 4% or maybe just 2%. If so, the Bronze wasn't the only dishonestly obtained medal. All 3 were, including Gold. Or, all else being equal, Eliud wins very easily. Especially without those experimental shoes slowing those 3 guys down, the medal order would have been exactly the same.
Since most or all of you believe #1, most of you believe the Gold was obtained by cheating. You DO all believe the Magic Shoe was an even bigger advantage than coaching from the Magic Wizard, against the rules, and good enough to determine the outcome.
