Great for Neita to podium at Commonwealth and Europeans but it’s weird how she runs super fast in semis and let’s up in the finals. Should have been a Double Gold this summer instead of Double Bronze
I was thinking the same. There's something off with how she runs her races. Thought the win was a shoe in for her after her 10.95 semi win.
I’m watching French TV right now and they are still talking about the incident between Katir and Hay, in the 5000 m, and the general consensus is that the Spaniard did not intentionally try to push the Frenchman, and in addition up till now, they have not heard about any plea for damage by the French delegation. People who think that the Spaniards intentionally pushed the Frenchman should perhaps watch the video again and then they will probably recognize that nothing harmful was intended. As I said before, I’ve seen much more blatant fouls in many races in the past, including ones where no one was sanctioned.
German lady just won the 100 m in 10.99, in front of the Swiss athlete, same time. The favorite, Neita, GB, was relegated to third place. The German finished like a steam train after being well down on the switch on the Britain at the 50 m mark.
I was there, the German crowd got extremely loud when that happened. Great vibe in the stadium tonight.
European Champs is a majority of clean athletes. If you are comparing it to the US and Caribbean sprinting and thinking there is a level playing field you must be knew to the sport.

if you believe any pro is clean in any sport I don't even know what to tell you
Adel Mechaal really got old FAST. 3:30 last year in Olympics, a 7:30.8 3K in February. Now non-competitive in European competition. Bizarrely abrupt fall to irrelevance.
Meanwhile: Sandra Perkovic of Croatia wins a record-breaking sixth consecutive gold medal in the discus, and there are scenes in the men's longjump.
Jacob Fincham-Dukes jumps 8.06m in first round. This is somehow good enough for a surprise silver ahead of two other jumpers also credited with the same distance.
Having done the flag-waving jog around the track etc it's then revealed that the perfidious French have protested about the legality of the jump (2mm of shoe did appear to be over the line). Protest upheld, Fincham-Dukes relegated to fifth, some frog-eating rando promoted to bronze.
British counter-protest is underway, presumably on grounds of "if he'd known his 8.06 wasn't going to stand, he'd have tried a bit harder in his next five jumps".
Have never heard of the Fincham-Dukes. 8.06m would have been an outdoor PB, but apparently he jumped 8.45m with a 3.6 tailwind at the Texas Relays in March. Which has got to be a windless 8.30m, right?
I said they are more clean in general and that is why the standard is lower. Obviously there are no guarantees. The testing isn't perfect anywhere but is a hell of a lot more stringent in most Euro countries.
So, I thought that Hay was being a crybaby too, as the main camera shot from the side didn't seem to show much more than 'slow tactical race'
Then I saw the head on shot, and I am more perplexed/sympathetic to Hay. Link below likely only works for France, but on the slo-mo shot, at 40 seconds, Katir is eyeing up the space, and at 42 seconds, his hand is literally under Hay's armpit, while Hay has kept his line throughout...
Probably not quite a DQ, but I certainly appreciate Hay's frustration a lot more!
Enorme frustration pour Hugo Hay au 5000m. Le Français a été projeté au sol après une bousculade dans le peloton alors qu'il était très bien placé. Il conclut sa course 19e, l'autre Français, Felix Bour, termine 24e.

appreciate the update. it is damn near impossible to get any track and field inside info here in the states.

I just watched the video again and I see what you’re saying when the Spaniards started veering to his left. It was at that time that he seemed to have pushed the Frenchman who fell.
However, the mystery for me is where did the Spaniard think he was going because there were still plenty of people to his left and it was too crowded for him to take the inside lane so what was he thinking?
I’m not sure how far this thing will go but I don’t think it will affect the overall result. However, like you, I do feel a little bit more sympathy for the Frenchman now.
I don’t think it was a blatant foul, but it was possibly a subtle nudge which was uncalled for.
