That was really impressive by Niklas Kaul. Needed to beat Ehammer by 27 seconds to win the gold and went out and soloed a 3-second pb of 4:10. Ehammer was last in 4:48.
Hopefully Katir will be disqualified. Did you notice at the end he was glaring at Jakob with pure hate and pounding his fists on the track? That looked like roid rage to me.
a bit of a random question but do decathletes train 1500 that much, or at all? seems like most of them are sprinter types – which is of course natural as most events favor "fast twitch guys"
Adel Mechaal really got old FAST. 3:30 last year in Olympics, a 7:30.8 3K in February. Now non-competitive in European competition. Bizarrely abrupt fall to irrelevance.

Absolutely was an intentional gesture. He did not mean to make him fall, but he did intend to push him over.

I never saw this happen - all I saw was the French guy, Hay, run up to the Spaniard and protest about the fall and the Spaniard lifting up his arms in dismay and saying basically there was no intention - at least that is the body language message he gave.
The negative image of the Spaniard, Katir, I believe is really over the top because I don’t really think he’s a bad guy in any shape or form. In Spain he has the image of a low-key, meditative, Buddhist type of person who writes poetry - at least that is what I get from the Spanish press, which I read frequently. No one has a bad word to say about him in Spain and of course cynics will point out that they (the Spanish), are biased because he’s their medal hauler, but still, let’s keep things in perspective here.

Bad peaking
Right like he ran 13:06 two months ago so there is that.

Mechaal elected domicile in Istanbul, Turkey, for the past few years which to me is a bizarre choice of venue because basically the Spaniard of Morrocan origin could train anywhere in the world. Having said that, his wife is Turkish and also an international runner for Turkey.
Mechaal and a couple of other Spanish athletes came into indoors really, really sharp. That's just too long a season for them to maintain peak fitness.

Might have to go for two peaks. But I really respect runners picking "lesser" championships in a championship packed year as this year. F.ex for the american 1500 runners I would expect them go all in on some DL meets while the top competitors are busy peaking for worlds, EC, commonwealth games and might not even run in those meets. Got to hunt those easier fields in big meets, no shame in that.
The German decathlete just ran the 1500 m in 4:10 which is pretty phenomenal for a big guy. He won the title.

Good to see an Irishman in the final of the hundred meters. Olatunde. That Slovakian sprinter, I think finished fourth very close to third place.
Azu seems like one exciting character! Won the british championship but was not elected to come to WC, now overjoyed with bronze. Olatunde is also so incredibly happy with his 6th, because the new Irish record he set.
