Great insight, MN Reve. Looks like he is from Slovakia so very possible you are correct. I just figured it was either a transfer or academic situation.
Yeah I have no clue why Hayes McMillan is listed in the program because even running him at state won’t help. Wayzata is needing a solid 5th man, Putting McMillan in won’t help them, I don’t think he could do sub 16:30 right now. Maybe they’ll put him in cus who knows what could happen, but as his coach I’d save him for NXR. Also He hasn’t run of his strava since oct 17. And has only done cross training up in-till today. He’s not in shape to be helping Wayzatas top 5, But I think for NXR he should be good, he could take Parker Dietrick spot, hope he’s healthy enough to run at NXR.
Yeah even if another team beats them at state, Wayzata can still win NXR if McMillan returns

Without McMillan, Wayzata is pretty much a 5-man team. They put him as an alternate because what if he suddenly gets healthy for state?
Seems like without McMillan……
Mohamed, McCollor, Weber, Kissell and Dietrick is all they have right now. Dietrick was also Wayzata’s #3 last year. Which makes us think that he should at least stick with their #4 this year
Yeah makes sense. They’re kinda desperate for some depth going into state/NxR. Also does anyone know the injury that McMillan has? Boot on his foot I heard? Could be ankle/foot related. Could it be a stress fracture? Those are pretty bad

Wayzata also has senior Zak Hussein who scored for them at RunningLane but there has been nothing on him since then. So he probably quit.
He can’t race at state anymore since he isn’t even one of the alternates
But he can probably still join now and be put in the top 7 at NXR if he is still in good enough of a shape to score, but it’s unlikely that he is though

He ran 15:50 at conference and was 1 second behind their #4. I'm sure he's been on the elliptical, cross training in the pool, etc. If I had to guess they will save him for nxr, but wouldn't be surprised to see him at state Saturday.
Yeah I’m sure he quit. No clue what happen. Can’t find his name anywhere, maybe he moved. He could be playing another sport, but I still can’t find him rostered to any other sports. Maybe had a bad XC experience.

It’s like the Ryan fries situation. If he’s healthy there’s nothing you lose by running him. He has a shot at a good race. You never know 🤷🏼♂️
I’m sure Wayzata would have been happier if Hussein still was on the team but since he wasn’t, it likely motivated the younger kids to step up. With only Hamza leaving, they are gonna be crazy deep next year and I’m sure some of those guys or other guys will step up during track too. Here are the guys they have returning: McCollor - 11 - 15:34 Weber - 10 - 15:37 Kissell - 11 - 15:47 McMillan - 11 - 15:50 Dietrick - 11 - 16:05 (ran a 15:51 at NXR last year) Salatino - 10 - 16:37 Haag - 10 - 16:37 Marshall - 11 - ran in the sections race and probably will at state unless McMillan returns - 17:19
That’s actually 8 guys. I can imagine they are all gonna work hard day in and day out cause I’m sure none of them will wanna lose a varsity spot
And a couple of more stud 8th and 9th graders. They are gonna be very deep and solid next year.
They will be Losing Hamza, but McCollor / Weber should place highly at state and likely NXR next year. If they can get 3 more guys to close the gap on them they could be a threat at NXN and maybe challenge for a national title. This year only 1 team can win it. And that team is in California and those guys wear yellow and black singlets during the regular season. Next year, it will be a wide open for many teams to win an NXN title. Wayzata will have at least 4 seniors on varsity so I’m sure they will be hungry to win it. The highest they ever finished was second (2014). Their girls team won it in 2013

Ugh when will Wayzata stop being such a dominant team 😭 seems like in the last 10 years they have been know was the ‘Fast’ team for XC. Yeah with the NXN situation I think they might be able to crack top 15, but NXN is so dense with talent you never know. Also all XC meets are different and rankings are hard to know considering all the different variables of meets throughout the states. But of course this year we know the fan favorite winner.

You have to take a look at their 2019 team. The year before they had 7 seniors in their top 7

I think Wayzata’s state title can even be stolen this year unless Kissell and Dietrick perform at the peak of their ability. In 2024 they won’t be the clear favorites. Minnetonka, Edina, and Jefferson could challenge for a spot too. Although Wayzata still shouldn’t be counted out. I’m sure Eden Prairie will be interested in entering the chat and if they wanna even go to state that year they will need to beat Edina or Minnetonka at sections. They have a decent freshman / sophomore class. Should be interesting to see how things go for them without coach Lindlief. Stillwater looks to have only 1 senior next year (scoring at least). They have a very good sophomore class

They've been dominant ever since Brandon Walsh left them after his all-state performance as a freshman. A reverse curse if you will.
