This was discussed on the Letsrun Podcast. It seems pretty unlikely. They already have a phenomenal distance coach in Ben Thomas. It wouldn’t make sense to have both Jerry and Ben coaching. Also, why would Jerry coach a college team. He has the perfect situation with BTC. He only works 2-3 days a week at the moment, only showing-up at practice for workouts. Why would Jerry take such a Cush job that is coaching professional to coach college kids at Oregon?
Well, I guess I was pretty wrong. I still don’t understand this move. What is going to happen to Bowerman? Will Jerry coach both? Doesn’t Jerry hate doing media? Does he realize that he’ll have to do a lot of interviews as the head coach?

This is interesting as he won’t be able to hide from the media at UO. Wonder if he still believes he has a lot to prove at the collegiate level. My understanding is when he was at Wisconsin he really didn’t enjoy the media or administrative side of things. Hopefully at UO he will be able to have enough good people to help him out and he can be the figurehead.
Unless everybody leaves, it makes no sense for him to get there and clean house. U of O has great assistants that do the majority of the recruiting. Nike, the facilities also play a part in bringing in the CA sprinter/jumper recruits. However, how does a micromanager deal with his team being away at altitude camp and not being there to adjust training?!

LOL no coach "enjoys" the administrative side of things
So I think the Heyward Field upgrades have a lot to do with this. The facilities there are better than what Nike has on campus at Beaverton. Jerry could be in place for decades if he fits and I bet Shalane handles the team when they go to altitude.
Ngl, I don't think Oregon should've hired him let alone a distance coach as director. Unless their direction is becoming a distance powerhouse like NAU(which I don't think is the move), their distance has been good. Ben Thomas is one of the best coaches in the NCAA and even though they had a down year this past year, they are still a top tier mid d program. I assume the AD's goal is to have team titles back in Eugene. Sprints/throws/jumps/multis can all use improvement and hiring a director who can encompass all events was the way to go.
wow, they're not even trying to hide it anymore. Jerry will probably only coach/groom the special ones at U of O, just like Alberto did with Rupp and Hasay. Start them on the "supplement" regime early, then funnel those athletes to BTC. I think it is an NCAA violation to be coached by a pro coach (why it was an open secret Galen was being coached by Alberto), but if Jerry is the director that is a nice loophole they found. Just like they found the loophole that if Shelby pays Jerry to coach her, then he is a 'private' coach.
Salazar really dislikes Jerry, right? I kind of hope Alberto gets so pissed that Jerry gets a free pass to do the exact same crap he did and spills the beans. His ego must be screaming "I thought of all this crap first, Jerry is just copying me!!!"
