It's possible to be world class AND respectful. See Syd, Mu, and Kerley to name a few. Showing up a high schooler you jut beat by hundreths of a second says more about you than the time. I still admire Lyles' running though.
The hypocrisy to me is that Lyles makes all these statements about mental health and depression and then trash talks an 18 yr while he's digesting his loss. Like bruh... you seem to only care about your own mental health. Don't be a narcissist.
Finally we have a spicy thing to talk about in track and field after Bolt's departure! Y'all haters are boring mfers who bring down this sport to obscurity. Y'all the reason Hayward Field's like half empty

Did you listen to the reactions of Ato and Sanya? They loved it. It’s sports and a little celebrating at your opponents expense at the pro level is ok. The whole Hocker v Centro last year was fun. Loved it when Jakob said he would have beaten Tefera by 100m if healthy.
Ato and Sanya are soft in the head.
There is nothing wrong with teasing and showboating, as long as it’s between friends. If it’s not, then you’re just being a dick, or if you push it, an a-hole.
Back when Lyles and CC were at odds, and everybody was blaming CC and his girlfriend, I pointed out that Lyles needed to grow up. He has made some improvement, but this brought out the worst in him.
He’s the elder, he’s the champ, and he needs to act like it, not like some punk-azz little bltch.
Without knowing what has been going on between Lyles and Knighton, you can’t really judge fully what went on here—but IMO it brings Lyles down a few notches. Too bad.
Well said.
Most track and field fans don't need hateful type rivalries to make the sport interesting. It is often the press which really plays up these things.
My own reaction was not one of "oh this is going to be good" but rather all of the air being sucked out of the room.
Hopefully somebody close to Knighton gets him to mentally reframe this as a learning experience.
Lyles made his point (literally) on the track and was unnecessarily yucking it up in the interview. Borderline but not inappropriate.
Knighton, to his credit, kept his cool during the interview when Lyles was antagonizing him.
Lyles maintains his top spot (for now). Knighton, due to being so freaking young and pretty mature when he could have been a spazz, leaves unhumiliated but a maybe with a chip on his shoulder.
Lyles has always been doing cringe stuff like his little wolf howl before getting demolished by the field. This is exactly how I’d expect him to act when he finally gets a win. he’s the chick hicks of the 200m
Absolutely love this. I've always been indifferent for Lyles but I love seeing this type of confidence. I don't give a sh!t if Knighton's a high schooler or not, he's now the fourth fastest man over 200 all time. Lyles has probably heard a bunch of sh!t about how great Knighton is, how he's gonna win worlds. Lyles had something to prove this race and he did just that. And I've seen people saying stuff like "way to hit a kid while he's down". What??? Knighton was an elite football player before he was a track star. You know the amount of talk he's probably heard playing football, the amount of trash talk he's been on the receiving end of. He can handle himself just fine. He's a competitor. This is just fuel to the fire for him. This is a test to see if Knighton has that killer mentality. The 200m finals at the World Championships is going to be special, I can guarantee that.
