Everyone has the shoes now. Uh oh. Might be special compared to runners from 2000 whatever but not any more. Oh well - guess 3:50 milers are a dime a dozen now.
In the greater scheme of things, none of this is a BIG deal. Nobody died, nobody went to prison , and yes of course, he’s talented, and yes, he’s young, and he’ll be back, BUT there’s no getting around this being a major setback. If we are going to celebrate winning nationals and making world teams and competing for world medals, and if we consider these accomplishments a “big deal,” then flaming out in your premier event when favored to win is also a “big deal.” It cuts both ways.
That’s interesting to hear. In the end, a wild card Pats team made the Super Bowl from the AFC and it’s just… really difficult to imagine the Bears losing to that team under any circumstances. Of course, the expectation was that the Bears would have a rematch with the Dolphins instead, and that could have been interesting. The Fins had been to the Bowl the year before and Marino was putting up passing numbers that we’re beyond anything we’d ever seen before. That could have been an all-time classic Super Bowl. Oh well.
I don’t get why most people are sh1tting on Hocker for this. A lot of the comments make it sound like he deserved to fail tonight.
I know people were overhyping him last year and he got some hate for it, but I thought he was generally well-liked on letsrun.
Regardless, it’s pretty stunning that he is out. Hopefully he can bounce back in the 5k but it seems making that team will be way harder than making the 1500 squad was supposed to be.
You keyboard warrior trolls are ridiculous. Idk where you get off calling Hocker arrogant. He's quiet. I have multiple mutual friends with Cole and they've all described him as one of the nicest and most down to earth people they've ever met.
And how is he lame for blowing off the press? He had a bad race and may very well be feeling awful about himself. He doesn't need an excuse to not want to talk to the press. He's not beholden to you or anyone else.
And finally, you degenerates have no idea what's going on. Maybe he's dealing with personal issues, maybe he's extremely stressed, maybe he suffered a last minute injury, maybe he couldn't sleep last night. WHO CARES. Just wish him well and move tf on jesus christ

Many people’s first big exposure to him was shushing as he won the trial. Doesn’t scream “nice” and “down to earth.” It screams “arrogant.” He set the tone for perceptions of him in that breakthrough moment and now he’s reaping the consequences.

Agree with you 100%, no evidence that Hocker is anything but a nice person. He’s also a professional athlete. Its a job. As a pro he is beholden to the fans, and speaking to the media is part of the job. Also, as a pro, he’s judged on his performance regardless of all the other stuff. That’s the deal. Now, having a disastrous race doesn’t mean he “deserved it” and it says nothing about his character, but it’s totally fair to call out his bad performance. If nobody cared, there would be no sport, certainly no sport that pays people a salary to do it.
it would appear he needs to go back to whatever he was doing last year. staying uber fit for 8 straight months. whatever he is doing this year is obviously not working for him. not sure if they're trying to be too cute, or what.
if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
He can't,he is under the resting regime now.He had his free pass in college.

Last year he had an amazing year where he improved by 11 seconds(never tested) this year the AIU are watching him and he stops improving, wonder why.
I wouldn’t say he’s stopped improving at all. He set a pr in the 5k, ran nearly as fast of a mile indoors, and killed it at usatf indoors. Simply just had a bad race. It happens. If it’s never happened to you, then you just haven’t raced long enough.
Seems a lack of racing kept him from being sharp, last year he never had his kick in early season races. Teare seems to run fine racing less but Hocker needs more to sharpen up. Should have done world indoors or done more tun up 1500m's.

Hocker was incredibly proud of his effort tonight. That's why he said to the flo track guy pass
Meaning he just passed the baton to another group of runners. Another group of capable young men
It was a perfect pass! A beautiful spiral that was completed with precision!!!
He felt like it was mission accomplished!
Did you see how happy he looked!!!
The guy was incredibly stoked to be part of a great race and to front run like that for 99% of it!!!
He could care less about making the finals that's not what it's about for him
Tonight it was his job to lead the race make sure no one gets hurt and pull some guys to a fast time!!! Mission freaking accomplished!!!
Profound.
I can't say I totally agree. I think he was definitely having mixed feelings. He's not usually a front-runner so this is new to him. So I think he was proud of his effort and working on a new technique but he probably would have liked to at least make one more round. But you're right I think he was definitely feeling good about leading those guys to a fast time!
He's been dealing with an injury this summer. Hence why he DNS at the Portland track festival and some other races and only ran that lackluster 800 awhile back
