All athletes are affected equally by the meet running late. Cade went out there and dominated by 4 seconds at a level playing field.
But it's a fact that racing 40 minutes late would affect the times that everyone is capable. In this case 3 hundredths of a second cost him, and all of us, the record.
Today was supposed to be the most exciting day of 800m racing in high school history. New Balance spoiled it.
This is such a weak argument. Literally any part of his day could have changed the performance by such a small margin. Who knows, maybe if he woke up 2 minutes earlier he would’ve broken it!
The biggest problem was the (usual) wind. The flags were blowing hard and in the interview you can see crap blowing across the track and blasting the mic. He ran a 1:45-high effort at least. What a frikkin BEAST
I'm quite amazed at the absolute certainty of the posters who feel a time delay, known in advance, has thrown off, I don't know, his mental outlook? His porta-potty use? Because it can't be his warmup since he knew waaaay in advance that the meet was running 40 minutes behind and would have adjusted accordingly.
2 minute delay ruins a warmup and race? You guys are nuts.
New Balance BEGGED Flatt to come to their meet. They offered him a rabbit in a national championship race. They promised him ideal conditions to break the record.
New Balance BROKE that promise.
Ideal conditions at Franklin Field? I love Penn and Franklin Field but no one expects ideal conditions on a non standard track.
The .03 second difference equates to about 0.028%. If he ran 0.028% faster, the record would have been broken.
Do you think the 40 minutes difference could have affected a person's performance by 0.028%? ABSOLUTELY.

I think they changed the order of the heats, moving the fast boys 800 in front of all the girls heats, and all of the slower boys heats, so the time of the fast boys heat hardly changed at all
They didnt tell any of the athletes in the top section other than Flatt that they were moving the top section earlier. Most of the athletes had not even warmed up as the meet was running 45 mins behind. Fail for New Balance.

so should the thread be titled "New Balance Screws over everyone but Cade Flatt"? Or are you just posting bs?
I am not sure of the exact time the 800 went off, but it was not at 7:55PM , and the Start time was listed as 7:14 I believe, normally they run slow to fast, so the fast heat at least knows what the time is. Some meets lately I notice run fast , to then back heats? However, Flats race went off prior to 7:45 for sure, so not even 30 minutes late, this happens ALL the time in these HS post season meets..ALL the time. This is not a Diamond League meet..or U.S> TRails or NCAA meet, it is as HS meet, a couple of false starts, a couple of falls /injuries..and you get backed up easily, plus they could see well ahead that this was off targeted time. The excuses made for this guy, who has now had two set up opptys. are unreal. I mean he is 19 years and two months old..how many advantages does he need? He got pacers..Pro Meet, Pacers HS meet..my oh my!! Need a little downhill track ? Mini bike?

This is the only accurate take on this thread. By moving the seeded heat up, the race went off exactly when it was supposed to - the event was scheduled at 7:15 but with 3 unseeded heats plus intros, the 7:30 start was exactly as planned.
There was no notice of this unless for anyone else in that race unless you happened to be standing 10 feet from the clerk when they called for boys 800 heat 4. Clearly a business decision in the interest of Flatt’s record attempt without regard for the other kids in the race. So much of this boils down to the fact that we have a pissing match between 3 national meets vying for credibility because these groups of adults can’t get along. And in the end, they make money and the competition suffers.
The “greatest high school 8800 meter runner ever needed a rabbit for a championship race ? right ! and won’t show up to U 20 champs next week. What a coincidence Same with all the record taking milers from rich neighborhoods. Yeah ok! see you next year Getting your limps
Everyone is subjected to the same rules. It’s a high school meet. The bigger issue should be the fact that they ran the 400 as a final on time of the championship meet while having freshmen rising stars all kinds of silly different categories for kids and she’ll probably be at home
If you want To be offended by that we’re still in everybody get some medal strategy by giving freshman rising stars everybody Awards and you wonder. Why kids have no resiliency. Or that USA Track & Field allows three different shoe companies that have high school national championships on the same weekend
If you are 19yo the spring of your senior year you 100% retook a a grade or your parents held you back a year for the athletic benefit (common at big Football schools in the south). But by the sounds of Cade’s interviews he isn’t the smartest so I’m voting he got held back. There is absolutely nothing to like about his personality, I hope he comes in last at USAs. Or even better gets boxed it and then complains about unfair it is.
